Question

ok I got loads of vid clips, but they wont play

need a codec, Ive got DivX but is there loads of versions of it?

clips are from various sources, so its not like im missing 1 codec, or am I?

anyway of finding which codec I need?

just get the latest divx, V5.0.2 http://www.divx.com/divx/

Any other codecs needed when u play a vid sbe dloaded auto by Windows Media Player, when u run them.

Could be incomplete divx files if they won't play at all.

I've got files that only play with sound using the latest codecs. I have to use v4.12 for those, odd.

Download the latest ones, see if it works, if you only get sound try getting hold of the 4.12 codecs.

yeh, theres a util (divxfix.exe I think) which fixes incomplete divx's; strips n rebuilds the index, so u can watch what u have even if its corrupt or incomplete

I've had increasing problems with encoded films over the past few months.
The solution I've found is thus:
Install DivX5
Install latest version of Microsoft's Media Encoder (contains an audio decoder that some films use - you'll get picture but no sound)
Reboot PC
If you still get no picture I then install DivX4.12 and the latest Divx 3 stuff (I read somewhere that some bits of Divx3 don't exists in divx5 as they were rairly used)
I find that that normally sorts out any problems
