Greg,
The software that came with your Pioneer drive will do what you need it to do (I think it's My DVD). I have used this software to accept a digital movie, that I encoded using my software that came with STUDIO DV capture card/software. You can then use the MY DVD software to add menus etc etc, and then write to a DVD-R in MPEG 2 format (this is the format that my STUDIO DV software will output). I assume that this software will also accept AVI format, that your DV capture card, should be able to output.
Regards,
Shaun.

What are you trying to play on your ps2?
Dont forget the ps2 Can't play Mpeg 1 or Mpeg 2 e.g. VCD's and Svcd's
Direct DVD-DVD film copies should play providing its modchipped

sorry but i dont think the ps2 will be able to play these formats.
Thats why i had to go out and buy a seperate dvd player that supported mpeg formats,as i had loads of vcd's and Svcd's.
I think the Ps2 has onboard mpeg, but this is only for the music in games and on dvd's.
as far as im aware there are no add-ons to allow mpeg films to be played. But if you had the original PSX console there was a aftermarket plug in that allowed vcds (Mpeg1)to be played but it was a c*** picture.
Buy yourself a cheap dvd machine that supports the formats,i bought a crappy Goodmans player for £100 and it plays everything iv'e thrown at it

Greg,
The PS2 will play an avi transcoded or mpeg2 encoded video format. If you use your DV software to convert the DV captured format to mpeg2, and then you will have to find a software package to add menus and chapters etc. The playstation DOES NOT have to be chipped to play a DVD-R in DVD format.
Try doing a search for "SPRUCEUP". This will take in AVI or MPEG2, add menus/chapters etc, and compile ready for burning (it will even burn directly, without using NERO).
If you have any problems, email me direct.
Regards,
Shaun.

the PS2 doesnt have the software/hardware built into it to make it play Mpeg formats.
I have tried various ways of playing my vcd's and Svcds,Thats why people who want to watch Vcds etc, have to go and buy a standalone dedicated dvd,vcd,svcd,mp3 etc etc player. The ps2 just doesnt support it.

Some people seem to be getting bent round the hat rack on this one.
1) The PS2 WILL NOT play a native mpeg1, video cd, svcd format.
2) You can play these formats, once they have been encoded to the DVD format (MPEG2).
3) The PS2 WILL play any DVD encoded disc (ie DVD-R), without the need for a chip (as long as it is the same region as the machine, or region free).
4) Many capture cards, have the appropriate software to encode into DVD format, but other software (such as SPRUCEUP) is required to add menus etc (and can also be used to encode). If you wish to transcode (resampling the bitrate, to make it fit on a blank DVD-R), you will have to use other software like REMPEG2.
REMEMBER, MPEG2 IS THE NATIVE ENCODED FORMAT FOR DVD!!!!!!!!! AS LONG AS THE APPROPRIATE SCREEN RESOLUTION IS CHOSEN.
I know all the above, because I have created a 2hr DVD from footage on my DV camera. This DVD plays in both my PS2 and my home player.

Shaun.

It's the highest quality screen res (Think it's 756x520). But it will be selectable in the appropriate pick list.
DVD-RW are also OK to be read.

Shaun.
