New to this game so here goes,

Is it possible to directly download to mini-disc? I do have CD/RW drive, however I run a non-CD/R/RW compatible Sony DVD player and MDLP(optical) through a STR receiver as my audio/cinema system.

Without chipping or buying a new DVD player, is there a way to download direct from laptop? (compaq prosignia).

The best way I can see of digitally transferring audio to your minidisc using a laptop would be to buy the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Extigy. This includes an external USB device with Optical outputs and can therefore be connected to your minidisc recorder.

Any other ways I can think of are all analogue forms of transfer.

Looks expensive. Could send my DVD away for chip, or sell and by a new one.

£132.77 from Dabs. Not bad really, useful piece of kit

But if you have no interest in PC music conversion then a new player or chip wil probably be cheaper.

Thanks for the advice.

Have linked up laptop via headphone output into aux input on receiver. Seems to work and is recording but am I loosing sound quality along this route?

Don't really need to compress as I have MDLP in home system and also head-unit.

You will lose quality because you are transferring in analogue format rather than digital.
