Home button stuffed so tried a few solutions without initial success.
Finally resolved .
Power down iphone.
Spray button liberally with electronic contact cleaner or 100% alcohol and let soak in.
Work home button a number of times.
Power up - Home button reactivated!

Nice and I think still getting the latest updates!! That's a five year old phone, Nokia 6110's didn't get that much use.
