Default Wife's laptop gone weird.

Running Windows 7.

It decided to do an update that took it a couple of hours. Now it is just alternating between a black screen and a grey one, with the hard drive whirring slightly as the grey screen comes up. It alternates five seconds of grey screen, two of black, all the time. Been doing it now for half an hour.

What should we do?

Boot it in to safe mode and do a system restore.

Thanks for all replies

Turns out it's only updated itself to Windows 10........she definitely did NOT give it permission so to do.

NOW we'll see if it's installed drivers for her printer......

She likes it, says it seems faster and her printer works perfectly, so no probs so far.

If I decide to update my laptop in France, is it a huge download? I only have 3Gb total for a month......
