iPhone charging?

iPhone charging?
Ok, so I decided to visit Apple to get a replacement cable, as the ones on ebay can be limiting.
Reading the reviews and the Apple cables are being slaughtered.. by everyone.
What's the deal, am I right in thinking an ebay cable isn't the same? Apple have some way limited it?
£15 for a short cable from Apple compared to 99p on Ebay

I opportuned to plug the supplied cable into my old Sony phone usb wall charger last night , only because the Apple one is behind a ward robe and Awkward to remove ( impossibly tight in socket for some reason)
All this because was screaming red that it was down to 20% (6pm)
Anyway it could somehow tell something was up because the fingerprint id didn't work with Sony one

I don't see how, you're ultimately charging over USB and you've only got 4 pins available and they're all dictated by the standard.
As for cheap ebay leads, the ipad/iphone does seem to be quite sensitive to the supply voltage (and certainly the ipad does need a reasonable bit of current to charge). So if you're buying a none apple lead then you really want to try and keep it as short as possible to minimise the volt drop.

Im sick of replacing power cables apple need to get a grip and start improving quality on these things, i bought a cheap copy when i was away from home for a few weeks when genuine one broke it's fantastic cable but after an update the phone now says "connected device not compatible" its worked great for a year robbing gits!! Ended up buying another genuine one and its starting to fall to bit already.

I was handed about 10 in various flavour the other day - some genuine some not
I demanded that my children had a clear up of all the cables lying around
"great" I said I will put them away where everyone knows where they are
"No" was the reply these are all the ones that don't work
Unbelieving and demanding proof (I hate throwing things away) I tested them all (obviously having to check the charger was working and with a few devices - iPad & iPhone)
And Fvck me - I ended up binning them all

Here's the one I'll be getting for the van when the current one stops working, which won't be long

The socket in my van is upright, the cable hangs down so there's a constant bend and the weight of the cable on the plug, it's also getting a dose of UV. Totally my lazy fault, not sure what others are doing.

i believe apple have started to enforce the use of genuine cables, their firmware can tell if a cable is genuine or not and they can disable charging on non-apple cables.
not great for the consumer but great for them as you have to buy their overpriced cables.
the clever men in china will find a way around it, they always do but its very much a cat and mouse game.
also remember its not just the cable you need to have correct, iPads etc. tend to require 2.5 amps from the power adapter the cable is connected too, most only supply from 0.5 amps to 2.0 amps - usually only apple ones or other specialist ones that go higher

iPad chargers are 2.1 amps which is standard for a 10w charger Apple or not. You can get certified cables for a fiver, use something cheaper at your own risk.

When you said "iPad etc" on an iPhone thread I don't think it was unreasonable for me to think iPad...iPhone rather than the other way round. Your Pro will charge just fine on lower amps, it'll just take longer. I'm very jealous of your device, somewhat hoping my iPad Air 2 doesn't last as long as my iPad 2.

its interesting you mention that it will charge slower on lower amps, i know this works as i charge the iPad occasionally from my PC's USB port (easily takes twice as long) but i have never know if it adversely affects the battery in the long run, any idea?
the iPad pro is nice and the little pen you can buy (expensive however) is very good on some apps and bloody useless on others, also come across a few apps that are not iPad Pro compliant and you get black borders like on widescreen movies, bit annoying!

Charging at higher rates will wear out your battery faster than lower, i.e fast charging my iPhone on an iPad charger works great but the battery will suffer in the long run. I doubt it's that much damage as all iPhones and iPads have circuitry to limit the amount of charge to some degree.

I have Apple cable and cheap one, notice no difference in speed. I just bought a load of cheap ebay cables and leave them lying around, all work find and only 2 have broke and i believe that one was original misses is heavy handed, and other ebay in car charger i dropped the arm rest on the connection and broke the end.
Apart from those 2 all others been fine.
