Doom and Goldeneye are the best games ever, imo.

First played Doom in 1996 (when you had to load the IPX stack manually), then Doom 2

Epic fun - FragemDM was the best WAD file ever, oh happy days

So much fun - probably the single biggest reason I am not a multimillionaire - but Fvck was it fun

Kids these days will never know what it was like trying to load all the drivers you needed in to just 640K of base memory. I always imagined it a bit like being in Apollo 13, not quite as life or death though.

I remember playing 3-way Command and Conquer, but we only had 2 CDs. The PC without the CD in would always reboot as soon as the multi-player game started. But, it did give 60 seconds for other players to connect. So we had to quickly move 1 of the CDs in to the rebooting PC, then try and get it rebooted, drivers installed and the game loaded within 60 seconds. Trial and error lead us to the fastest rebooting, driver-loading PC so that one always started without a CD.

hah yea so true, going back a bit further i had a similar experience trying to get the miami vice soundtrack to run seamlessly out of an Amiga A1000 by swopping 3.5 floppy discs at the correct moment My classmates were in awe of the sound quality, at the time no home computer was able to produce real sounding music in real time Showing my age now.
