Graphics chips et likely. They can over heat over time and suffer from dry joints. You would need to get motherboard out and reflow solder either with hot air soldering station or micro soldering tool.

Or take out hard drive copy my documents files to new laptop

This eventually happened to my old laptop last year. Better than losing hard drive and contents

Get a USB enclosure n plug the hdd into that n copy/paste the data onto the new SSD.

It could just be the screen as well, but might be tricky to replace due to the age of it.

I had it apart last night and to be fair it has been a decent work horse that I think is just getting tired. So a new one will be bought today....hence my other thread

Thanks for the replies Bio and Andy

Nvidia chipset? Looks like it, you may find that plugging in a monitor via VGA (not hdmi) and running in safe mode (640x480 resolution) may allow you to use it to backup.

I went and bought a Lenovo laptop running an i5 processor.....it is not too shabby.....got myself a USB enclosure for the harddrive of my old laptop and will just use that to transfer all the information.
