I thought Blackberry had decided to go down the road of using Android at some point in the near future.

I've older Z10 which is good,yes as above you can install any Android app on the BB without the problems,because new BB OS is Android "fork" OS

And about the Passport,this I'm looking too get in near future,I prefer Blackberry(I've got too iPhone 5s)
