Sony doorstop
My PS4 connected to my WiFi just fine soon after launch. Yesterday after a few months I fired it up again and it would not download updates. Its browser works, and then it did manage to download a system update, but now it won't update applications. I backed up my application data to USB and initialised but it still will not connect to the internet, and when setting up network connection it gets stuck in a use proxy server loop. I have reset my router, tried a cable connection and it still doesn't connect.
I tried opening some ports in the router and it still won't connect.
I have never had trouble with just plugging in an Ethernet cable to any device, this toy is worse than any PC.
Any suggestions? Thinking of flogging it as I hardly use it and it is becoming needy whereas it should be whitegoods for 10 year olds but baffles this assembly language programmer.

Can you try tethering it through your phone, just as an absolute elimination of anything to do with your broadband?
But I'd just flog it to be honest - if you want something for gaming, put the proceeds towards a small under-TV gaming PC - consoles just no longer seem to offer the "turn on and go" simplicity that made them appealing, and they have precious few other compelling reasons to buy them...

My phone reception on the strongest network is barely enough to make a voice call and might sometimes manage to sync email headers over GPRS if you hang out the window through which I see really only sheep, rabbits, birds, fields, sky, sea, hills. Civilisation is on the horizon.
ADSL is, in the circumstances, respectable and reliable at 6Mbps though.
I'm not really into gaming though, used to be, lose interest though. Don't want to sell on a lemon, but it must be software.

Yes done that. Changed to fixed IP address, added various port forwarding stuff I found, nothing worked. Then switched to my old Home Hub 2 and that worked. So factory reset the Home Hub 3 and it didn't work. Home Hub 2 back again, NAT type is 3 which is restricted, so gave it a fixed IP address and added some port forwarding, NAT type changed to 2 then fails a connection again.
When it fails a connection it can still access the browser!
Maybe I need to get a new Home Hub 5. Spent about four hours trying to fix this stupid toy.

Six months later for weird software issues might be interesting to get Argos to understand. Any replacement would be likely to do the same since this is updated and initialised?
