Question

I have been advised that I should have one for my laptop which I use on my office net work as well as stand alone scoobynet interface( )

I have Norton personal firewall not installed (came with Norton Anti Virus) is this a good one

I've heard that the can be quite a pain

any advice would be appreciated

Phil

the norton firewall is pretty easy to use. if you are using a personal firewall in the office, it will also stop people within the office to hack into your PC!

Our company insists we use Norton Desktop Firewall and since we've got the rules set up now, it runs in the background with no problems. My personal preference is for ZoneAlarm which is very easy to use and free for personal use.

Cool

IMHO, any mainstream personal firewall software are good enuf, such as tiny, zonealarm, norton, kerio, blackICE, etc. i have used a number of personal firewall and they will "generally" block most hack/port probe, etc.

best way is to check how good is your firewall by visiting www.grc.com and www.pcflank.com.

Never use a PC on the Internet at work or from home, on any connection from 56K to T1!, without a firewall and an antivirus program.

Ever.

me too never use a personal firewall until i saw how easy it was to hack into people's PCs on the office LAN! now, most of my PCs got personal firewall installed (including anti-spyware by ad-aware).
