Default (stupid question) wax or polish

So I know this will make me sound stupid but want to get this completely right in my head, I want to wax my car to protect it and to get it beading etc but not effect the paint as I know you shouldn't t-cut / polish your car too much, is that correct?
where as polish restores colour and removes small scratches but affects paint slightly each time, is that kind of right?

Basically if I get the turtle wax metallic for my Scooby or I might try the simonez rinse off wax for ease, is that going to do what I want?

If so I wont bother getting polish at the moment.

thanks and sorry for the dumb question

Also when waxing, is it best to apply panel by panel with 1 micro fibre cloth and then buff with a separate one?

Can I rinse, wash, rinse, chamois, wax, buff?
sound ok?

cheers again

I hand polish mine roughly every 6 months, with G-Techniq P1 polish, but i will add a coat of wax every month to keep it topped up.

I find it easier to use a small polishing pad to apply wax, a small amount of wax goes a long way. I usually get a tester pot of dodo juice wax and that can last me almost a year.

I wax the whole car and leave it for about half an hour to let the wax set and it makes it easier to remove.

you can use any of them really, i would say WR blue is a light colour. I have a winter wax which will last upto 6 months at a time, the dodo juice wax in the link is a hard wax and is what i use on mine during the summer, which probably lasts about a month.

Difference between soft and hard is the longevity of them. I wash mine once a week and found the dodo juice hard wax beads well for about a month. My winter wax is collinite 476s which is suppost to be one of the most durable wax's you can get.

Collinite link,

Dodo juice is very easy to apply, and the collinite is much more time consuming, due to the hardness of the wax. A little bit goes a long way, and the less you apply makes it a lot easier to remove.
