Default I'm Confused :( want to clean injun bay

I have read through the guide on polished bliss site about cleaning the engine bay.
However I am still confused as to which product(s) to use.

I am thinking maybe the Meguiars super degreaser to start off with to get rid of all the grease n cr4p under the bonnet as I like the Meguiars range (used their 3 stage stuff on my old classic)

Car has a K&N induction kit and fmic so would like to be able to get the intercooler pipes nice and shiny

As you say mate use the Meguiars super degreaser and lots of elbow grease and finish with some metal polish, the Meguiars is good stuff depending on how bad (dirty) the engine is. I wouldn't bother with any thing else, I think a nice clean engine does look good but don't go over the top it just don't look natural but that's just my opinion.

I did mine a few days ago. covered the fuse box, battery alarm and coilpack with plastic bags and lashed everything with traffic film remover.

Waited about ten minutes then went at it with my pressure washer.

ran the engine for about ten minutes to dry things off then absolutely covered everything with wd40. this is what it looks like now. bear in mind that it has never been cleaned and its on an x reg so is nearly ten years old!

ha ha ha, it sure did mate yeah.

When somebody mentioned jetwash and engine to me i immediately thought no way, but as long as you watch all the electrical bits it comes up so well.

cheers mate.

I sure did mate.

Its perfectly safe if you cover all your important electrical bits.

Takes the ball ache out of scrubbing everything.

NO! never WD40, it isnt suitable for certain kinds of rubber/plastic, you shouldnt spray it onto electrical conections (it causes extra resistance,if your throttle control valve starts to pack up you'll know wot I mean.I cleaned mine wi proper contact cleaner (on mi old escort) as good as new) WD40 will dry up the next time you start your engine an eventually turn black, lookin dirtier than ever. I use silicon spray (Halfords own brand) Its high tempreture resistent so it wont dry out (it'll smoke a bit if its on yer exhaust manifold ) and turn black and highly water resistent, it helps prevent plastic and rubber from rotting,BUT DONT GEDDIT ON YOUR TYRES OR BRAKES!!!

Why the hell go through the hassle of cleaning your engine bay and then cover it in bloody WD40

Sorry, but thats an absolute classic WD will surely go black and just make your engine bay look like a greased up gay bar (not that I know )

I don't get WD40 or silicone spray products. Why clean everything up only to coat it in a layer of artificially shiny gunk that doesn't dry fully and attracts dust? In contrast, 303 Aerospace Protectant gives a satin look to everything and drys fully, meaning it attracts less dust. Dead easy to apply too.

I've seen the engine bays with areospace protecterant and they look better than new,but my priorities are corrosion protection and cost.
The aerospace protecterant MAY offer only SLIGHTLY better corrosion protection and admitedly look 100% more attractive than silicon spray, but silicon spray (Halfords own brand,I've tried other brands) is a third of the cost. It is an excellent alternative.

i have used anti static silicon lube spray for years in aircraft and other engineering practices, excellent stuff. you can leave as a film layer for lubrication or buff to a dry layer that doesnt attract and let particles like dust stick, hugely used in food industries and packaging.ambersil i used by the way so cant comment on other brands.
Of course there are better products out there for coating components for protection but as i get ambersil for free ill carry on lol.

Autosmart Finish is as good if not better than Aerospace 303 IMHO and a fraction of the price......

If Tardis is the ultimate tar remover, Finish is the ultimate black plastic rubber dressing IMHO
