i use to remember my old red mk2 golf, and when you T cut it, red paint use to come off.

with todays paints, they seam to be a base colour, then lacquer on the top

with these lacquer type finsh, does it mean that there is no point buying expensice polsihes and waxs, as there is a lacquer over the paint, so wont be able to bring the colour out, so to speak.

what sort of paint/finsh do classic impreza have?

mines blue although I have a limited knowledge of detailing properly id say my paint was 'soft' although the polishes I use seem to work in ok and dont clump?..awaits for a better response for you

Modern clearcoated finishes need just as much care and polishing as old school single stage paints. Modern clearcoated finishes don't tend to suffer from oxidation (fading) anywhere near as much as old single stage paints (particularly red lol!), but as fine defects build up, the underlying colour and or special effects like metallic/pearlescent flips can be somewhat dulled to the point of looking flat.
