Strong fairy liquid mix in warm water and aggitate
with a soft brush (something like a soft paint brush).
Used this method on my 'Green' cotton filter, worked very well.

Meant to say, this only really applies to cotton
filters not paper

Thats not really a good idea.

These filters need oil in order to trap dust. If you wash all the oil off the filter it wont filter very much.

You should buy a K & N cleaning kit as it comes with the oil that you need to spray onto the filter so that it will trap dirt/dust.

agree that would be better to get the proper cleaning kit but i've heard of a lot of scoob owners running them dry as the oil can kill the delicate subaru maf.

Have been running my filter 'dry' for the
past year or so and no probs at all. Felt that the risk of
knackering the maf was too high using these spray
oils if too much is applied. Do actually have the oil in the garage but opted
against it and knowing how tempramental these sensors
are didn't think the 'proper' oiling was worth the risk.
Each to their own i suppose

Cheers for the replies guys,

I used the warm soapy water and paint brush method before reading all the replies.....oops.

Had no probs though, like I say its fitted to my n/a MR2 (which the other half is having at xmas) so if it goes wrong ill blame her heavy right foot

Thanks
