Rattle can lacquer how do I get a decent finish?
Help
I'm painting a few bits and bobs (foglight covers etc) and although its not going to win any awards I would like to get a better finish. I've put 5 coats of lacquer on but I'm ending up with an orange peel finish, even though I flatted back the last coat of paint before lacquering.
How can I get a smooth finish?
I've thought about using 1500 wet and dry then t-cut and finally polishing. I don't have a machine polisher but do have plenty of elbow grease.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're putting it on too dry. Go round all your edges first and then starting at one end do nice smooth swishes that overlap, you should see a wet effect as you go. Be careful though, it's a very fine line between getting it wet and getting a run! If it's still dry, go slower or move the can nearer your subject.
If all that fails, as above, flat it out...it will take a lot of elbow grease to polish back up by hand though...

Thanks for the suggestions. I trial fitted the parts today (pics to follow) and they don't look too bad, I'll let the lacquer harden fully before attempting to polish it back...
