This is a hotly debated subject and one that can never be agreed on
I use Swissol more expensive to buy perhaps but long lasting and the shine is just how I like it

There are 2 different products to consider. Waxes offer excellent long lasting protection and water repelancy but are quickly destabilised by excessive heat. Most car waxes are Carnuba based and this breaks down at temperatures above 180 degrees F. Left in the sun, the surface of a car, especially a dark coloured one, can reach in excess of 220F. This is where polymer based sealants become useful. They aren't as long lasting as wax, but are more temperature stable in excess of 400F.
My own preferences are to clean with Meguiars NXT shampoo using a lambswool mitt and two buckets (one to rinse the mitt between wipes). Towel dry with a waffle weave microfibre towel, removing any water marks with Quick Detailer and an MF cloth.
In readiness for summer I strip off old waxes with P21S and use Meguiars Clay Bar to remove bonded contaminents. Then I use Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish to prepare, followed by Blackfire Wet Diamond polymer sealant.
As winter approaches I reapply the BF Wet Diamond as a base layer, and then add a layer of Meguiars NXT Wax, followed by 2 layers of Simoniz Original Pure Carnuba Wax. This will see me through 8 months of autumn, winter and spring before I think about stripping the wax for the next summer. I may give a quick half hour refresh with Megs NXT Wax if there's a nice clear cool day, but in general it takes me one half day to prepare for winter and a full day for summer.
Good products are...
Meguiars NXT shampoo and wax, Blackfire polish and sealant, Poorboys Natty Blue Paste (wax), anytrhing by Chemical Guys, Simoniz Original.
www.polishedbliss.co.uk are a very good supplier.
