Bit of a thicky question
If you are going to machine polish
Do you really need to Clay the Car?
I will do anyway but if you are removing swirls with polish surely a claying is not required?

Yes I am going to but I wondered why the polish didn't removed what the clay bar does

Clay removes the toxins and crap from the paint, prior to polish.
Preperation is key.
