Default Why/what is the difference between 2.0 and 2.1

As above and not the obvious please but is a 2.1 so much better than a 2.0 both forged is it really better to go for a 2.1

100ml

It adds additional torque due to the increased engine capacity.
I have never actually had a forged 2 litre only a forged 2.1. It revs like mad and hasn't broken yet. Far cheaper to build than 2.35 as well.

I thought there would be so e wise **** ready to comment well done no disappointment there then

Well the reason for the question I have a engine tuner 2.0 CDB fully forged cossie pistons and spec c nitrate crank acl and all that so very good piece of kit had a guy all ready to buy it and all his mates told him not to buy and go 2.1 I'm only thinking he isn't going to go to engine tuner and have one built by him so I just wanted to no is mine as good or better than a average 2.1 build mines all brand new never fitted only reason for the sale is I'm having a 2.35 built

Increased compression ratio? But then I suppose that depends on the rods/piston's you have in the 2.0.

There is not really a better it's all in the details, there's so much variables with rebuilds don't forget RCM gobstopper is a 2 litre.SJ.

Well i stayed with 2litre and im going rotated 30r aiming for 550 and i didnt feel that the extra .1 would be that beneficial so didnt bother.

As stonejedi said, the gobstopper is a 2litre

The Gobstopper runs Nos to make up for torque.

There really is no replacement for displacement.

The NOS RCM use is to get there engine moving so that they can spin up that beefy turbo they use to spin up quicker so as to reduce lag I have asked Matt myself.SJ.

I agree to an extent but a well built 2 litre will always produce the goods and I would rather have one then say a built 2.5.SJ.

Hi John

You need to try both engines, but I prefer 2.1L,its much better to drive than 2.0L and extra 0.1 its worth extra spool and extra torque,on MDX321T we are made 452BHP/440lb-ft and 490bhp/480lb-ft

2.35L will be different beast and with GT30 .63AR its marriage made in heaven

Thanks,Jura

Displacement means alot!

You can go route of the 2.0L crank and use longer rods(+2mm) and custom psictons, simialr option selling HKS or even Cosworth and with this setup you will have best from both worlds.

Just I'm not sure, car with 2.5L crank is not revving so fast as with 2.0L crank, tried car with destroker'd 2.5L and simialr spec to ours(same heads and same cams) and car has revved little bit faster than 2.35L based on EJ22T,but that's my experience, maybe I've just been too long from the fast cars

NOS is different thing and we are loved NOS,its has been awesome on the 2.1L and wish we are have too on 2.35L

A 2.5 would be better than a 2.35. If you used a thicker block.

What about that Subaru V12 F1 engine that's been doing the rounds on Facebook?

Well, this is a tricky one isn't it? I can't say anything bad about my own engine!
This is how I see it.
Given the option, I'd go for a 2.1 on the basis that we've made a big deal of these for some time now, and have established a range of pretty much foolproof tuning options. If you come to me and ask for a built engine with all the trimmings to make say 350bhp/450bhp/550bhp/650bhp or even plus, assuming you have the budget, we can go right there and hit the target right on the nose. It's because we've been there and done it time after time.

We find the 2.1 offers better spool up from any turbo and more torque, even off boost. Because we maintain high build standards, we offer consistency.

There is nothing wrong with using a nicely built forged 2.0 engine, and it'll be a damn sight better than some of the cheap rubbish floating about out there.

Options relative to the post, and a prospective purchaser of the 2.0 engine.
We'll have to assume it's in tip top order after the passage of time.

Option one; Have us build a new 2.1
Option two; Use the properly built 2.0 as above
Option three; Choose another top quality engine builder to build your 2.1
Option four; Choose AN Other engine builder to build your 2.1
Option five; Purchase a used 2.1 source unknown
Option six; Purchase a used 2.0 source unknown.

I could go on, but you'll get the drift!

If the 22B's were so good why does no one go for 2.2's?????

Most do, but the price of a EJ 2.2 reflects this, they then then stroke them to a 2.35.

?????

The 2.5 is the best, especially in standard form.

I run a fully forged 2L at 460 BHP & Iv been considering a 2.1 myself so last time I went to RCM I asked Mat about it. Mat said that 2.1 2.35 & 2.5 all make a great road car but that a 2L is stronger as when running big piston to bore clearance for big power the piston rocks less. Mat also explained that whilst the larger capacity makes more torque their own cars don't really need it as they are built to be thrashed on track in the power constantly hence putting engine strength & reliability before torque. I'm happy with my 2L for now but if I blew it up I'd be going 2.1 as it doesn't cost much more.

We use the EJ22 as a stroker as well, occasionally using them in place of the 2.5 blocks when seeking serious power. We have a Hawk on the go right now!

Well thanks guys lots of good opinions there I suppose everyone has there preference but this just proves to me that my 2.0 is still a good option especially as it was built by ET

Alan this engine I had it for about 14-18 months It had a nice pair of heads on it but sold them separately so left with the sort block I have looked after it very well it been covered and kept on an engine stand and in a heated garage so it's as it left yours I would of used it but because of the time scale that this build has been on I now have enough to have a 2.35 built so thought I would sell this one

Don't the 2.35's come from the EJ22 hence the very short supply and associated high cost???

Yup, although I've seen a few ej22 blocks going on here for around the £1k mark.

On another note I saw what looked like a forester with "H6 3.0" on the grill. Any idea if these are anything like the eg33?
