Why plus vat?! gets my goat
Why do Subaru tuners etc still put huge headline grabbing prices up and then plus vat them in the small print!?
Surely they know their market, and it's naughty to be frank, that the majority of sales are to the gen public, so why not put the actual price up?
Is it that hard?

One of the reasons is that a VAT-registered buyer - who's highly likely to be involved in providing estimates etc. - could have an idea of the real cost to them.
Another would be to prevent people thinking that, in the event of a VAT increase, the seller had put their prices up.
Yet another is that unless everyone followed the same price advertising convention those adding VAT as suggested would look expensive in comparison.
All that said, I can't see why advertisers can't advertise ex VAT and add another price after with VAT added eg. £100+ VAT (£120). Solves both problems.
The other ploy that gets my goat is delivery charges.
Why wait until halfway through to then say that it's another £15 quid (before VAT !) ?
The number of times I've aborted a transaction because it was cheaper overall from another site.
These days traders - especially on Ebay etc. - seem to make money out of delivery as well.

Some of the better websites I use have the option to switch between ex vat and inc vat prices.
I guess that I why I use these sites again and again.
Plus vat sites tend to get punted to touch in our household out of principle.

technically speaking you have to advertise fully inclusive prices and have done for some years now!!
we have lost countless sales because we always quote fully inclusive and they sound more expensive than A.N.Other, until the customer gets the bill and realises they have been stitched up
you simply need to ask the "right" people
