Default Oil sender kit for gauges

Quick question. I have purchased the fitting kit

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Pressu...5#ht_535wt_883

Does this allow me to do both Oil Temp and pressure?

I think you'll need a sandwich plate to do both....

I ordered the prosport gauges which come with senders. just unsure if one can be at the top and the other at the side of the fitting.

According to the ebay site, for want of a better description, the little bolt with the hole in the middle goes into the block above cylinder 3 and the temperature gauge goes into that. The oil pressure gauge goes into the long braided pipe bit which is then put by the alternator (presumably where the standard idiot light sender is located). I think the two locations are so you can have the gauge and the idiot light sender connected at the same time or not depending on your preference, hence the removable blanking plug on this.

Right, but the last sentence isn't

The two positions are because that's where to get the most accurate and most useful readings.

The one at the rear on top of the block is above cylinder No 3 which is known to run hottest, so it's a good place to know the oil temperature.

You CAN put it elsewhere if you are lazy, but it's on your head.....

So idiots guide as follows for me.

1) Screw the nut with the hole into cylinder 3, and screw bottom of braided hose into it?
2) Run braided hose upto alternator and secure.
3) Then is where both senders from the prosprt kits then go onto the metal t that i have secured to alternator.

Is that correct

No that's wrong the brass nut with the hole screws into cylinder 3 and then your temp sensor screws into the hole. The braided hose screws Into your pressure port under the alternator the same hole as you remove your pressure switch from then your pressure switch screws Into the other end of the braided hose so does also your pressure switch sender for your gauge. The only other thing I would recommend is buy this exact kit but with the longer braided hose as you can route it away from the alternator and aircon pulleys.

ahhhhhh thats made it more clear. (sorry for retardedness)

So all the braided hose is doing is to allow you relocate the original pressure switch

Yes that's correct which is why I would have advised a longer hose to move it away from the pulleys . Mine is a metre long and located on the side of the top mount passenger side

As above. My sender is quite small and I've just done away with the OE oil pressure switch.

I have fitted it all no problem. The oil temp gauge is flashing. So that tells me there in no sender connected. (Prosport gauges). I ordered a new temp sender and its still flashing. Why is that?

Just out of interest have you got them wired wrong oil temp mixed up with oil pressure because the only one that flashes from first start up is oil pressure if its low. Other than that if wiring to correct sender to correct gauge have you set up the parameters on the gauges yet guessing they are stepper gauges ?

No they are defo wired up correctly. When oil pressure flashes its red and white to alert you that there is a problem. The gauge just flashes white to tell you it's not receiving a signal from the sender. That's what's happening now.

Yes they are stepper. What do you mean by setting parameters? Warning, peak etc?

You got a multimeter? If so, can you test the output from the sender, if any?

Have you tried grounding the sender body?

You grounded it?

You SURE it's connected correctly at the gauge?
Was the gauge new, or used?

Update

The gauges flashes as if no sender is attached until the engine gets warm. Then it stops flashing like the the other 2 but does not read the temp.

How long have you run it for? A good distance? I have to run for at least 15mins before i show any oil temp at all.

Took it on a 30 mile round trip down the a1m. Needle never moved. The gauge does its opening sweep etc so it's not as if needle is stuck.

The sender has 2 wires ( white and black) Do i need to earth the black wire somewhere or do both connect to the harness from the gauge.

The black wire has got a good earth hasn't it?

Just re read the above. Are you saying that it's just earthed to the mounting bracket and not to the chassis in some way?

Is that from the sender? If so then it connects to the 2 wires from the gauge.

Do I need the black wire from the sender to be earthed somewhere.

Have you got the black wire from the sender earthed and the wire from the gauge earthed or have you just joined the black to black?

Pretty sure you need to earth the sender too, is there a black wire from the sender?
