Default Change the M3 for....?

So I've weighed up my options and it seems if I wanted to fix my e36 m3 evo (vanos problems, clutch, welding + bits and bobs) I'd be better off breaking it for parts and getting another, but then I got thinking what else I could get instead.
With a pay bonus coming up I should have 8-10k in April and I'm unsure how to abuse it
I could simply replace it or get a e46 m3 but both still demands big servicing costs. I could get a Monaro. I could even get a ZX-10R (I'm currently bike-less ). I was also looking at the type-R/P1 ideas but I'm not really sure about these models or what to look for. Is it wrong to have 2 classic scoobys? Is this the wrong forum to ask that question??
The M3 has always been a weekend/summer car and I'm looking for the same again, I certainly want to keep my classic wagon for everyday/mountainbike use.
Any ideas on what I could do people?
Many thanks,
Paul.

Flog the wagon, break the m3.

Buy a blob wrx wagon @ circa £3.5k which i'm guessing is about what you will get for both cars, maybe more.

Then send it to Engine Tuner for a 2.1 stroker engine build, sc46, front mount, simtec ecu and get a 6 speed box fitted, some Ap brakes, bc coilovers,

That lot should come in at around the £10k mark, if you shop around, then you will have the best of both worlds and a giant slayer.

Call me odd but I couldn't spend that kind of cash on a blob eye purely for aesthetic reasons. A hawkeye, now that's a lovely looking car but I assume the 2.5 has the piston failure problems. I'm guessing I'd be looking at £1500-2000 for a pre-emptive forged piston rebuild.

For £8-10k you could get a really nice spec Blobeye Widetrack with full service history. And probably a PPP upgrade and maybe even a few tasteful extras.

Different car to an M3, mind. Depends what floats your boat I guess.

for 10k you could get a very nice blobeye sti jdm maybe the hawkeye jdm!! the hawkeye jdm's are 2.0ltr so a hell of alot more reliable I wouldnt think all the 2.5 hawks are that bad though!! you probably hear all the bad stories and none of the good.

Probably nearer 3.5-4k as you would want to do ARP studs and ACL bearings while its apart. It's worth it in end imo as it makes it a great car and strong enough for 450-480bhp. Mines forged and im only running 360's. Fast enough for a road car and now reliable. Same power as the e46 M3 csl.

Wow, a fair few votes for the blob eye
I've never heard of the widetrack version, a quick search of ebay etc doesn't seem to throw much up
I gotta say, I'm quite surprised nobody suggested whacking a 2.1/2.5 in my classic....
Do the classics not handle the power or something?

It is the Blobeye model that was fitted with a wider track, in this country it came with the DCCD and was available from 2005 onwards.

Aside from being an import and demanding higher insurance, I can't see why you'd go for a P1 with that in mind (I've spent a lot of time getting to know the search button since joining this forum )

Nobody think the ZX-10R (brand new) is an option then??

P.S. So far, it's sell both and have a blobeye widetrack with a towbar mounted bike rack

I would spend 3500-4000k on a 2005 r1 and 6k on a m3 e46 job done.

I still recon if you sell the bm and the scoob you will have circa £13k, which is wide track jdm sti money, if you don't need a wagon then thats where my money would go, and they hold their money too.

I'd love to buy exactly that car.. Then refit the stock 19" M3 wheels

CSL wheels belong on a CSL, everyone and their dog fits CSL replica rims.

I do really like the idea of an E46 M3 but they don't seem to make near their quoted power and don't feel fast aparantly. Not sure I'd want to pay a lot of insurance and fuel for a car that feels slow. May as well get a diesel and remap it.

I have driven a couple of e46 M3's and would not say they felt slow but i suppose it depends what you compare it to.

I was going to get a 400bhp hawkeye for 11k but after the performance wears off you are left with a nasty interior with a loud noise out the back. So not sure now what to get for a dd, test drove an e46 m3 with smg at the weekend but couldnt really ring its neck as the lad seemed a little scared so felt quite slow. Hasnt put me off though but im leaning towards the 335i which can now be had for the same sort of money and a downpipe / remap will see an m3 off in a straight line plus they are easy to get over 400bhp.
