Default Noise when decelerating

Hi all,

WRX STi Spec D 07/07 27 k miles - completely standard.

I've had this before when decelerating on the motorway in 5th gear, and again this evening in 2nd gear.

What I am hearing is what I can only describe as a high pitched vibration of some kind (can't feel a vibration if that makes sense).

Tonight I took it up to approx 5.5k RPM and took my foot off the gas - sounded like a high pitched drone.

Is this the AVCS or has anyone else heard what I mean?

It could even be something small like a loose heat-shield or something, Best thing is to get it ramped up at a garage and have a good check.

Funny enough iv just heard a strange rattle sound when I come off the accelerator. I think it is a shield or something making a noise under the vibrations made by a Scooby!

I would say its either a heat sheild (probably one at the front ) or the clutch ate springs rattling.

Ok, but the clutch is still engaged, it doesn't happen when I dip the clutch.

Why would I hear this (whatever it is) on the deceleration rev range not on the acceleration rev range? It's weird, and really is quite loud.

High pitched, wouldn't be ringland issues starting would it?

You hear it when coming off the accelerator because of the vibrations.

Check your Up-pipe heatsheild. they are a bugger for breaking the welds off and starting to rattle

If you rest your foot gently on the clutch pedal can you still hear the noise. Could potentially be the clutch release bearing making the noise

I also have it, and mine is the turbo actuator rod, like others it only happens on lift off the accelorator, so i knock it into neutral.
