i got this, just accepted that it comes on because oil pressure is set to come on at 0 , maybe turn it up a few notches before it comes on? will that work?

Don't think you can without switching the defi's off, I tend to record 3mins of driving so stopping with ignition on = press play for some peace ,

alternatively wire in a switch to the earth wire (power feed to the control unit), then you have an on off switch for them.

Dan

I'm rewiring mine over the long weekend (fingers crossed) to do the same. All the info you need can be found here https://www.scoobynet.com/lighting-a...bf-gauges.html

I've done this and used the Bright switch for the purpose - now it does something useful :-)

Record for a few seconds normal driving, then when you next switch the ignition on and don't want the beep, press play then pause. Works as long as you want.

Hang on lads, hang on, all this extra wiring isn't necessary IF your gauges are WIRED CORRECTLY.

First off, are we all clear that there are TWO ignition "on" positions, plus a third which is sprung and starts the car?

IF the Defis are correctly wired, you should ONLY get the beep when on the SECOND click of ignition, NOT the first. Your headunit etc should work on the first and NOT NEED you to go to the second click.

OK, having got that out of the way, let's look at Defi wiring.
Behind the control box are the daisy chain wires for the gauges, (well, one at least), plus the sender wiring. Don't touch any of those.
Look at the FOUR wires that are captive, ie: NOT wired via plugs.
There should be FOUR: Red, Orange, White* and Black.

* WHITE can also be YELLOW on some, not usually though.

Those four need to be wired as follows:
RED: PERMANENT live, ie: live all the time, ignition on, or off.

ORANGE: SWITCHED live, ie: live only when on SECOND click.

WHITE: LIGHTING LIVE, ie: live only when sidelights etc are on.

BLACK: DECENT EARTH, mine goes to battery -ve.

What a lot of gauge fitters do is wire the two lives in one, or take the orange to something, so it's on when on FIRST click.

I would check where the ORANGE wire is connected to first, BEFORE messing with the earth, which needs to be UNINTERRUPTED, so as not to lose settings.

Use a circuit tester or multimeter to find a wire under, behind etc the dash that ONLY comes live on second ignition click. THEN check it goes off when on first click.

Here is the type of circuit tester I use: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-CIRCUI...item563a0e4542

Can also be had from decent car shops. DO NOT buy one with all sorts of LEDs etc. Pay no more than £3.50.

Simple.

Point well made Alcazar - I took the "economical wiring" approach when installing my Defis and I need to fix that as I want to maintain settings
