Default Defi BF Gauges

Hi All,

I have recently brought my first scooby, its a 06 WRK STI Type UK and I am seriously in love with it lol.

One thing that drives me mad is whenever the ignition is on and the engine not running the defi gauges make a ear piercing sound.

May sound like a silly question but is there anything I can do to stop this?

Thanks in advance. Rick

They should ONLY alarm when the ignition is on second click, ie: all dash warning lights illuminated, next click is against the spring and starts the car.

If they are alarming on first click, they are wired incorrectly.

If they are doing it on second click, why would you want to stop it? The alarm function is there for a purpose and saved my engine this summer

Correct gauge wiring for Defis:

RED: PERMANENT live.
ORANGE: SWITCHED live, (only when ignition is on second click).
WHITE: Sidelights
BLACK: earth.

lol now your asking mate. Ive only had the scoobs since Sunday so will have to investigate further and maybe take a look at the wiring.

I dont want to stop any warnings that might save my pride and joy but would like to sit and listen to the radio sometimes without the engine running.

Thanks for your input bud

Why not do it properly? Wire it up as I've posted, and use the gauges as they were meant to be, no messing.
You CAN have the radio on with no alarm if you do it properly.

The clock wires are often used, and switch as described by the OP.

I would rather wire the radio to a permanent live myself...

Thanks for all your input gents.

I've done a little more investigating and as previously suggested the gauges are wired up to the ignition sense that goes live when you first turn the key so in the week I am going to re-wire it to a second stage ignition sense

Thanks again people

Easy enough to do, buy yourself a cheap circuit tester, (mine was about £3 from a carshop, has a brass barrel, point on one end to probe for livewires, pierce insulation, etc and about a metre of wire terminating in a crocodile clip on the other end), invaluable.

Switched lives behind headunit, clock etc
