Hi Chris, I hope you are enjoying your car. I'm pretty new here too. "anything I should know" lol mmm well speaking from personal experience, it's pretty easy to get wrapped up in anything that relates to the car and find one's self splashing out on all kinds of bits to make the car more personal and taking a major interest in tweaks that are likely to make it quicker. All good fun.

regards

Tim

Welcome Chris.

One piece of advice: ask on here before doing any mods to the car. Some work, some don't. Some are OK, some are distinctly NOT OK and an engine rebuild is a dear do

Where abouts in North Yorks are you?
Warm it up and cool it down before / after driving it on boost.

Regular oil changes every 6 months.
service at a specialist or do the work yourself if you are competent.
Using 97 RON will get you more mpg and the car will feel livelier.
Welcome and enjoy.... Bob

97 Ron=Shell Vpower, Sainsbury Super, BP Ultimate etc etc
99 Ron= Tesco Super though Vpower is considered to be the best

V Power is 99 RON not 97 (and is the best)

http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/...pkg/tech_spec/

Tesco 99 is a close 2nd (just make sure it's not been in the tank long...it has a short life at that RON)

The rest are ok in an emergency (£5 splash and dash till next Shell or Tesco)

Welcome, my little bit of advice would be let the engine get to operating temp before getting heavy with the right foot, likewise take the last few miles home without hitting boost to let things cool down nicely before you switch off.

And remember 4wd does not mean it will always get you out of trouble its not a mirical worker.

I stand corrected,
Also just a little hinter, ever noticed at Tesco pump that it seems to be slower fueling than usual? The reason (I have been lead to believe) is that the pumps slow down when the tank is at one fith or less capacity. So with that in mind the fuel is considerably older, it would take an average Tesco forcourt to get to that level about a week. Or at least it did when I worked as PFS manager baring in mind that the price of Super was about 99p/Litre then.

been using vpower for the last 8 months decided to give tesco 99 a go this week and no noticeable performance difference car feels exactly the same too me.
I also went from a vectra to an impreza just get used to the cars power before you get slamming the foot down and you will be fine.

If you are going to mod it for more power then change the fuel pump. You could buy a Walbro for the bigger numbers but a mild tune you could get your hands on a JDM or UK STi pump. Loads of peeps change them.

to be honest i haventy even thought about modding the car yet its probably the most powerful car i owned to date, dont even know what bhp its runnin to be honest but alot more than a vectra estate or a k reg astra or a leon 1.4 hehe so i think i will get used to the power and the car in general before i think bout mods

Welcome pledgy. As you're probably gathering, this bunch are mad/bad/bonkers and great to have around when ever you need to know owt.

I entered in a similar way to you, had a mondeo, trashed a GX sport which was a godsend as I got the WRX then . You will want an STi, but the WRX is a good car and if you've got some cash you can still go bananas. I wish

Welcome to the club bro
