How practical is the Impreza wagon?
Sorry for having to use the P word but SWMBO is a little concerned at my prospective Scooby purchase as she thinks the boot won't be big enough and there won't be enough room for our 3 children (ages 11,11 and 3)So I wanted to gauge a few opinions off wagon owners. She's seen a classic wagon but I've tried explaining that new age cars are bigger
wagons are great mate no real disadvantage over the saloon once u remove a few choice items to gain the little extra weight back i loved mine but just couldnt afford to keep losing money all round great tho
I should point out we have a Galaxy at the moment so anything is going to seem small she's been spolied for space in this car!Thing is though most of the time its just me in the car so I can't really justify having 7 seats when I use them once in a blue moon (plus 115HP in a car that weighs over 2 tonnes is no fun at all!)

I went from a Vaux Zafira to a Bugeye wagon and can't stop grinning. The boot in the wagon is no smaller than a standard estate but you have the added bonus of driving around in a mid life crisis. I know SWMBO wears the trousers but you must be well versed in bluffing by now!!!

I've got a Wagon now and have had a Galaxy in the past. The Wagon is a great car - but with three children - take a good look at the back seats to figure out if you have enough space for booster seats etc.

iv just bought a newage saloon, imo it has masses of space - plenty of room in the back and the boot is huge!! Neighbours have a wagon, but think there decision may be more swayed to them taking their dog in the back alot, as obv a saloon boot wouldnt be suitable - but apart from that the saloon is fairly spacious tbh
Tried it have we??
TBH thw wagon is good if you had 2 small kids, 3 you wil struggle, its more of large hatch than a full estate and the room in the rear is the same as the saloon (I've owned both) and ample depending on how tall the driver is..
Had you looked a Legacy Estate they are lot bigger proper estate all with scooby burble and plenty of grunt.

i have a classic wagon and regularly have the kids prams and shopping in the boot no probs, it carries my sons quad bike (only a little lt50) no problems and it helped me move house. ive had beds, tv's coffe tables and all sorts in mine. an all round winner imo.

OK the wife runs an X3 and that swallows our sons pram in the boot and seat in the back. I have a hawkeye wagon and i tried to take our son to Nursery - If you have a baby seat that is huge ie the ones that can recline etc then getting in and out of the wagon is a pain. Overall aside from the boot they are the same as the saloon. The hatchback is practical but generall the Impreza is a poorly designed car in the practical sense.
You should consider the Legacy GTB estate. I've had an STI V3 wagon for 11 yrs now, I biught a GTB one Autumn to run as a winter car so I could garage the STI. I ended up running the GTB all year round for 3 years. The boot is huge, plenty room for families and comfortable for long journeys.
The best bit is that it is that it's a bit of a Q car, no-one knows what it is, when the 2nd turbo is on full boost it's very impressive for a big car. It'll probably match the STI for acceleration from 80-120 in 3rd/4th gear.
Only got rid of it as I ended up with too many cars - now seriously thinking about flogging the V3 wagon to get a newer GTB.

Legacy is a better bet but neither will take three kiddie seats without attcking with a hacksaw first.
I did once get two kiddie seats and the mother in law in the back of my Classic once but she did scream a bit when I shut the door

My eldest two are out of booster seats so thats not really a problem I have looked at the Legacy but TBH I'm not keen on the looks and worried I'd get hammered on the insurance being an import.
I was looking for a bug wagon when I first looked at Imprezas. I thought (rightly or wrongly) that the boot space was not much different between it and the saloon, due to the angle of the rear screen.
The main disadvantage of the classic wagon compared with the legacy space-wise is the size and shape of the hatch opening, which is quite restrictive relative to the actual amount of capacity of the boot. Leg-room in the back isn't enormous either, but for younger nippers should be fine.
The new-ages might be a better in both respects.

In todays climate Imprezas are resigned to being toys, if you want/need a family car buy a family car
Economy, space, comfort the list is endless, as fun as the Impreza is, there are a million cars that do the job better.

I've already got a plaything for the weekend (Honda SP-1) I'm just after something to make the drive to work and back a bit more fun plus 90% of the time its just me in the car but need a decent size boot for those occasions when its needed (I owned a Mondeo ST TDCI estate for 2 years and can count on one hand the number of times I filled the boot)
