Default Any thoughts on a new car ???

After 1.5 years of my 2nd Classic 2000 turbo i have decided to go and buy a new car. Not ready to give up the Impreza bug tho...

Budget is up to £12k but i would like to have a little something left over
Requirements:
Some thing a little special
Room for going above 300 without re-building it.
A/C or Climate Control

Thanks for any ideas

Ash

Buy a WR1 mate, 320bhp from factory, 0-62 in 4.2 secs, 0-100 in 10.6 secs, awesome limited edition car. Only 500 made for uk.

Looks very nice having worked for a UK Subaru dealer i struggle with the idea of a JDM.
I was also think a P1 might be nice.

It was never a factory car plus the times have never been replicated by anyone, and the 1/4 mile time doesn't match the 0-100 time, the spec c has a quicker time and terminal speed now that is a factory car

I would go JDM, see if you can get a nice my05 car, don't worry about the lack of burble, they sound like a rally car when on full chant

A P1 could end up costing you a fortune, they are 10 years old now and if its not been remapped or had an engine rebuild then you should put some cash on one side (plus it doesn't have climate, just aircon).

I think that makes a P1 questionable now. But they do look so good !!!

Like the WR1 idea and would be a bit more exclusive ...

You would be better off with an MY05 car rather than a WR1, its the better car as it has the spec c geometry set up.

make sure you get the 05 with the arch extensions, subaru revised the interior and wider running gear.

jdm is the way to go mate, setup much better than a uk car and with a better spec too! all they need is to be mapped for our fuel

I'm not convinced as was in the motor trade for 5 years i have seen a number of horror stories and this is putting me of.
Also insurance seems like it will be a bugger!!!

Why are JDM's better handling than UK car's, what are the key differences, apart from the engine.

If they are better handling is there anything that can be done to UK cars that will make them handle better???

Personnaly I would save for a Hawkeye, they are around the £12k+ mark.

Jdm's are totally re engineered over the uk cars, they had dccd from 2003 and they have quick rack steering, engines are more reliable (you see virtually no engine failures on the twin scroll units unless your really stupid) and they are sharper than the uk cars.

Reliability isn't an issue and insurance is surprisingly no different (sometimes cheaper) than a uk car

Cheers Tony, I appreciate that the package is arguably, but what is the difference handling terms. You say they are sharper but why, would be a simple geo change that would make a UK car the same, or are we talking about uprating the suspension?? Or is it just because of the quicker steering rack??

I am looking at a Hawkeye so DCCD isn't a issue.

Cheers.

Its just the full package, there are suspension differences but the shocks are still the same afaik, the quickrack gives better steering feel and more precise turn in, the MY05 cars brought the jdm and uk handling closer, not quite as good though
