right here goes. lol. is this the correct way to change the oil in my 04 sti please.
after jacking the front end to get enough clearance under the front of the car (obviously) , undo oil filler cap, drain the oil , remove old filter , and then as its draining, backfill the new filter until it absorbs no more, refit drain plug , fit new full oil filter, and then fill up with new oil. and before starting the engine, i unplug crank sensor and turn the engine over until the lights go out.
is this correct ?

After the oil warning light goes out keep crankin fo a little longer 10 secs or so is good practise .A warning light will show when running because the crank sensor has been disconnected ,this will eventually disapear after a few starts .Did on mine anyway.
Why cant we do it as the owners hanbook states as mine makes no mention of unpluging anything to prevent the engine firing if subaru do it as the handbook when you get it serviced at one off there dealerships as mine has and that adds up to 10 oil changes with bills to prove it cant have done any harm or ??????????????

perhaps, but I would say that cranking for say 1 minute and not getting pressure (due to thick oil, cold tired battery or whatever) is far worse for the engine than a literally a second of actual running while bringing the pressure up to normal. Decisions decisions!
