Got myself a set of HKS plugs over in Japan but upon my return I found out that it is not possible to easily change them.
So, I thought I leave the job to my local Subaru dealer. So, the guy told me that it takes quite some time to change them as all the bits on the left & right side (air filter box on the left and battery & windshield washer etc on the right) have to be removed and that even the engine has to be lifted up to access the spark plugs.
Now, either he was just lazy to do it or is it really that difficult to change spark plugs on a boxer engine? I read many posts on here people changing spark plugs, but I didn't think it was that difficult.
Anybody can enlighten me?

ok you dont really need to take the battery out it can be done quite easily with it in and you also dont need to jack the engine over. just remove the washer bottle pull the plug leads off then you will need a socket and extension to remove the plugs we do use a special tool at work it's about 4 inches in length. but he is right for the other side you do need to take the air box out not hard just two 12mm bolts going downhill in to the chassis leg. then repeat the removing process as per the other side. takes me about 15 mins to do all 4 but i have done a few

 

Totally agree with Scoobyboy. Allow 1 hr for your first attempt. Piece of pi** to do actually. Listening to my dealer I thought it was a nightmare to do (I think he was trying to justify 1.5 hrs charge)

you don't need to actually remove the airbox from the car, just unbolt it and swing it out of the way, and as for the filter, well even a monkey could do that!!!
Did my plugs this eve, only took about 30 mins for all four!!!

My car is the same model and I changed the plugs last year. If I remember correctly the plug leads seem to be stuck a little. Just wiggle them about a bit and then a good hefty pull (remember don't pull the leads on their own pull the cap at the plug end too or you might screw up the lead)

I take it you undid the 12mm? bolt that secures the coil to the head??

I changed my plugs this afternoon, first time i've done it

Relatively easy job, took about an hour ish

Only 12mm bolts ?, what's happen with the airbox lid ?, and the hard plastic thing(MAF) screwed to the airbox lid and attached to the flexible air hose ?

Yesterday after removing the washing bottle I tried pull the plugs leads off but without success.
Anybody can help me ?
