Bigger fuel injectors?
#1
I have a '96 WRX with Unichip, full decat and 1.0 bar boost (259 hp and 309 Nm), next step could be bigger injectors so have following questions:
1- What size do I have now
2- What would be a max safe injector duty cycle in the standard
set-up
2- What size should I take if I go bigger
3- Do I need a remap (understand difficult on the older types or
can it be done via the Unichip?)
4- Do I need another fuel pump
Tnks!

96WRX came with 380cc injectors, but you can confirm what you have by colour. Grey = 380's, Yellow = 440's.
The size of inj' you need, will depend on how much power you're aiming for. With an up rated pump, and increased fuel pressure, people are squeezing circa 300bhp out of 380's, and circa 350bhp out of 440's, and 400bhp out of 550's.
Generally, 85% is considered the max IDC, but if you peak higher, for very short periods of time, it should be fine, although not ideal.
I would ask the Unichip tuner about dealing with bigger inj's, but I would have thought the Unichip could cope.

Thanks guys, for Mark: what will happen/brake if the idc is more than 85?
I am impressed by the increases in hp, is that just coming from the bigger injectors or do you need additional modifications aswell?

Frank,
The injectors only allow you run the power, in terms of how much fuel you'll need.
You'll need to have the right size turbo, boost, IC, map, etc', to actually get the power.
In theory, running the inj's at very high IDC's for a long period of time, will make them overheat, and possibly jam. If you hit high IDC's, for very short periods of time, you should be ok.

You probably have 440cc go to about 500 or 550, you should need a new fuel pump but it would pay to get a higher fuel pressure regulator
