Default What does the ECU know about oil pressure as standard?

Was wondering what the ECU knows about the oil pressure as standard. The reason I ask is that I have a PSI3 that gives me some info about oil pressure but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have an after market oil pressure sensor fitted.

I assume that there must be something that measures oil pressure as standard as otherwise how does the ECU know to put the oil light on when the oil level gets too low?

Would an after market oil pressure sensor give better info - more accurate / more responsive info?

The OEM ECU has no oil temp/pressure parameters.

I'm looking at the ROM image for my 05 STI PPP right now. No reference to anything oil related anywhere, not even under CEL codes.

Yeah no probs, PM me your email. Saved in RR .hex form, hope that's ok. Also working on a tweaked version that gives much better low end throttle response. Working very well so far but still tweaking and logging. Don't want to damage anything...

An eighties Rover could manage to sense the oil pressure, I'm sure the current Subaru ecu has some idea what is going on...

No idea whatsoever. The Psi3 monitor can only display oil pressure via an add-in sensor directly connected to it. It doesn't get oil-related info from the SSM stream because there isn't any there in the first place.

As above, Psi3 uses its own sensor.

The ECU doesn't control the oil pressure light. It is triggered directly by the pressure switch located underneath the alternator. Chances are the sensor head for your SECS Monitor has been located there as well - have a look and you should be able to see it.

You already have an aftermarket sensor in the SECS monitor.

The PSi3 will need connected to a Defi oil pressure/temp sender before it can display them. You then have to connect the sensor to certain pins on the PSi3.
You can find instructions on the net but if you cant I can scan & send them to you.

The ECU is blind to oil pressure.
