Question Buying a classic impreza

I am looking at buying a 1999 classic 2.0 n/a, the one thing that is putting me off is the 150,000 miles it has on its clock, are the boxer engines good for this sort of mileage, or should i be looking in to preparing myself for a rebuild,

my choices are buy a classic to get back into scoob ownership
or buy a diesel astra, etc etc (better miles for money) as i do about 500 miles per week,

any input greatly recieved,

paul.

Now i would'nt normally say this but with that kind of miles per week it will cost you about £100 in fuel and thats if you drive it like a great granny..
And no offence, im guessing that if your looking at scoobs with 150k on the clock your not minted and even if you are,it would not be remembered as one of your better life choices

You'd be nuts mate. As said a diesal car would save you a fortune doing that sort on mileage. Shoving 500 a week onto one thats already done 150,000 will kill it quite quickly. Better off saving for a cheap turbo as a second car (they are getting cheaper by the day).

that was my other option, buy a crappy diesel for work which is about 400 miles per week, then buy a turbo scoob for personal mileage about 100 per week. i already use £80 of fuel per week, just sick of non scoob ownership and had the idea that a high miler cheap classic could be used as the work car then i can look at getting a turbo in the new year as the weekend car

These cars do 150k with ease, if looked after, not modded and driven with sympathy.

It can only be about £1500, so I say buy it if it comes with good history and pedigree.

For that mileage every week a diesel is a no brainer

24,000 mile a year in a Impreza aint good for the wallet

Get something like a 306ElTurdo for the commute and with the money you save you'll soon realise an early WRX.

was also looking at a 2.0 dti astra for the commute, but deep down i may just keep looking for a scoob and to hell with the cost of running it, if it cost me £100 per week to run i see it as its only £20 more than i'm paying now, and whats £20 to get the smile back on my face

When I said £1500 for it I assumed it was a Turbo.

I'm pretty sure you could get that GL cheaper than £995?
