phil,
Short story is Yes & No
IIRC classics with 17" x 7.5" et 48-52 with 205-215 tyres will be OK.
IIRC 16" clear standard 4pots!!
Getting the correct ET will ensure the tyre doesn't rub either wings/rear strut or foul inner wing on lock
IIRC newage brembo's were the problem and not classic brembo 4 pots

ET "X" or "Y" This really determines the the offset from cente of the wheel to the flush face thats bolted to your hub. So does not necessary mean it will clear a certain brake caliper.
Long story, i'll try and explain it and I'm sorry no expert

As you know there are 5 considerations for wheels,
Dia eg. 17"
wheel width eg. 7.5"J
et eg. ET50
Tyre width eg 205mm
PCD eg 100 only effects if the wheel stud pattern is the same

ET "X" or "Y" . This really determines the the offset from cente of the wheel to the flush face thats bolted to your hub. so an ET0 is smack in the centre.
The higher ET the tyre will get closer to the Strut and the lower the ET it will get closer to the wing.
Changing ET on some brands of wheels can help them to miss but at risk of rubbing
Below are approximate example and not true measurements, tyre overall widths and rolling radius are effected by what width wheel they are fitted on.
18"x7.5 ET45 wheel 225 tyre eg. misses the wing with 8mm clearence
18"X8 ET45 wheel 225 tyre eg. misses the wing with 1mm clearence
18"x7.5 ET52 wheel 225 tyre eg. misses the wing with 8mm clearence
18"X8 ET45 wheel 215 tyre eg. misses the wing with 6mm clearence
as you see getting the the correct tyre size
just to put another one into the mix

For instance on Brembo's some eg. 17 x 7.5J and ET 48 will clear brembo's and others with the same Dimension won't. this is due to their spoke pattern.
Hope this helps than confuses, this is why most don't like to comment as wheels are expensive and a lot of peeps, like me, who think they know it all and don't

Steve if you look on Home | Subaru (UK) Ltd Official Website and look in accessaries/ wheels look for P1 wheels 18"s I think they used to say the size and what ET they are.
IIRC they were about 215x35x18 and wheels 18"x7.5" ET53 but sorry not certain memory of a goldfish. Try the P1 owners club
