Had a chargeback on a credit card transaction today for over £3k. The order was collected by a couple of Asians at our unit.

Police are involved, but the "perpitrators" may not be too difficult to spot out there.

I'd be grateful if either anyone spots a car with these parts fitted, particularly any of you tuners out there, or if anyone gets offered them individually to get in touch with us direct?

The parts involved in the order were a Forced Performance "FP Red" Turbo, Aeromotive FPR, 800CC new Age injectors, Hyperflow Monster FMIC and a Turbo intake pipe, allegedly all to go onto a new age STi.

These are hardly run of the mill items, so our suspicion is that they're going to be fitted to a specific car?

Any information leading to tracking down the parts or perpitrators will be greatly appreciated.

Cardholder is registered on College Road London (SE21) in case anyone spots a car with these mod's in that area?

Don't shoot the messenger,but as of last year,the Police don't deal with credit card fraud as they used to.It is all handled by the individual banks fraud department.
You'll get a pro-forma and log number to record the incident-maybe a crime number depending on the stage of the investigation by the bank

Assuming the credit card was auth'd as a CNP why did you allow the goods to be collected? No offence intended but it sounds like you have glaring holes in your credit procedure.

I think it's down to lack of resources for the police, most probably lack the infrastructure in place to deal with this kind of crime (due to the type of investigation required, other parties involved e.g banks etc).

Hope you resolve this, not fun when someone steals your goods (which is what has happened here).

 

Exactly right. NEVER take a card over the phone or net and then allow collections of the goods.

Not sure you want to concentrate on the cardholders area, much more likely to be a cloned card and these scum come from local area, Birmingham, Leicester, Notts, etc.

Most of the houses along that road are million+ so probably a cloned card.

 

The police make me laugh. We alerted them to a known fraud which was for in excess of £10k. They were trying the same fraud with other companies within our group and could have obtained up to £60k using several cards. All card details matched using AVS/ CV2 but delivery was going to be made to third party addresses. The police were tipped off but the value was too low to do anything. Now I know for a fact that these idiots try and hit us every other day...........the very fact that the delivery radius spans less than 20 miles suggests this is not mere coincidnce. If they are hitting us they are hitting others so easily upwards of a few hundred thousand in addition to the other criminal activities they will not doubt be employing.

No wonder credit card crime is topping £500m when the authorities pretty much allow this crime to go unpunished.

Sorry for your loss. There's a lot of ill informed rubbish posted in response. Credit card companies do not report credit card frauds to police. They normally refuse to provide details to police when they request them as part of the investigation. The courts of this land still require evdence to prosecute offenders. When the only people who can provide that evidence refuse to cooperate what do you expect the police to do?

Billyray is right S70.........they police are now diverting any such fraud calls to the banks who are then to pass the details to the police when they have concluded their internal investigation. The credit industry accepts there is likely to be a decrease in the next year of reported credit card fraud. This is not to say there has been any success in reducing it purely the number of reported incidents will be fewer.

We process in excess of 10 000 transactions a month on credit card (approx £1.7m) Since the introduction of Chip and Pin, CNP fraud has gone through the roof. The banks are useless and have little sympathy for the poor merchant who gets whacked with a chargeback. Verified by Visa may go some way to prevent on line fraud as the liablity shifts to the bank so the sooner Merchants make this compulsory the better.
