Hi peeps as above which fuel? i currently have a shell garage 1mile from me and a bp garage 1mile away, since owning my scooby ive used shell v power but when i have a turbo back system will that fuel still be good enough thou? my m8 uses tesco 99 ron fuel for his 200 sx turbo and no problems but thats 4miles away! cheers

If the cars a UK car and not an STI, it will take normal unleaded with no problems, as that's what the ECU would of been set for (Best to check in the manual though). Most on here either use Shell V Power or tesco's 99, Both are 99 RON fuels but the shell is a true 99 ron fuel instead of having 5% ethonal added. Shell is better as it's also got additives that clean the engine but cost more than tesco's, Choice is yours. I've always run mine on shell, thats what it's mapped for.

Having a full decat on a newage can cause problems, cat on fire light normaly comes on the Dash and you can cause problems with leaning out (Bad for the engine) a remap is normally advise ASAP after a full decat.

I wouldn't use BP in my lawn mower let alone the car. Tried it a couple of times when stuck and the car hated it.

Agree with Danny but I loves Tesco 99. F**king cheapskate me. Some peeps are sooooooooooooooo paranoid about fuel that it almost becomes violent and nasty.

My old Newage Wagon had a lower decat and a re-map set up on 97 Ron (old stuff in Tesco) boshed in some 99 and **** y old boots what a difference!

I'm not a fan of BP Ultimate, it's overpriced and made my car run like crap, it eventually killed the engine, but mine is an import. I had a BP fuel card, so not much choice there. It's good for tuned Corsas and the like, not so good for Scoobies.

Shell V Power is generally cheaper and a lot safer, and since both garages are the same distance apart I'd go for the Shell every time.

Tesco is just as safe but as pointed out it's 5% ethanol. This isn't a problem but ethanol has a lower energy density than petrol, so for any given amount of fuel there is slightly less energy produced, so you'll either see a reduction in power, or a reduction in MPG, depending on how heavy your right foot is. Of course, it's cheaper which makes up for the MPG reduction. Of course, is it cheaper when you add on the additional 6 miles driving you have to do to fill up? I guess that depends on if you shop at Tesco or not

As for the engine cleaning abilities of Shell. They're very real, but BP have those too, Tesco don't but in reality you don't need them in every tank anyway, so running on Tesco, then once a month bunging a tank of Shell in there will be fine.

In conclusion, I'd probably stick with Shell, and get a drivers club card while you're at it.

Im quite worried nowof what u said about ''boost creep'' thing is i dont ragg my car round only now and then do i put my foot down, i was gonna get the car mapped in feb's pay as im doing my car month by month, so hopefully should be ok if i drive it carefully withthe turbo back system

But TESCO 99 is used in all the STOBART sponsored Rally cars, so it can't be bad. Fuel and Scoobs is a bag of worms!!!

They do use Tescos 99 but this isn't always normal forcourt fuel, there are two other version of tesco's 99 that have extras added over that of 99 forecourt fuel

V-Power for me! No point buying a scoob then scrimping on fuel! Tesco 99 if i'm stuck, but BP Ultimate...no thanks! Defo need the car mapped tho, best money you'll ever spend on a car for smiles per miles

Well if u fone up pro speed ask for charlie and say matt with the scooby from newport recommended u anyway he knows sum1 who will mapp your car for £250 and he will come to your house with his laptop ,in your car etc he plugs into the ecu etc u drive it while he on his laptop etc and charlie did say ul get about 40-50bhp mad or what! or theres read racing cwmbran who charge £290 but wouldnt bother with them!

cheers matt ill be doing that then lol just got my first real taste of owning a scooby just jad the car service at ace motorsport picking the car up on monday said the bill should be round £600 which is more then I thought but ive gota have it done plus ill be missing my 1st scooby meet with you guys 2moz, bad day all round. For that you won't get the License. Which means every time you want a tweek it's another 250quid. If you have a it done properly, Andy F, Bob Rawle or Powerstation its about +500 quid and tweeks are only hourly Labour Charges.

Or

The mapper has non-license software and therefore no comeback if it all goes wrong.

250 is suspicioiusly cheap

Had the last three of my 4 Scoobs mapped, many on here have too but it's you call.

I know what your saying Ian, I thought £250 was bloody cheap, Sounds like the cost of remap once the licanse has already been paid for.

If not I don't think I'd trust the guy if he's only charging that much when everyone else charges £500-£650

There are other mapping options than EcuTek if you have a car with a 2001 or later ECU. Some of them are free.
