I currently have the following mods on my bugeye wrx:
uprated headers, sports down pipe, center decat, stainless mid & back box, bov & panel filter.

I am in the process of saving up for a remap and Im not certain if the car already has been mapped or not.

I have also been informed that by having the 4 branch manifold/uprated header I could be running the car lean?

I will eventually get a reputable mapper to sort the map eg JGM or prosport but at the mo am I running a risk not having the remap asap?

I appreciate that the remap will improve & maximise the mods already done to the car.

yes it could be, but a simple diagnostic run on a RR will tell you if there is a fueling issue or not

 

If you want to be safe, just keep it off boost till the map.

As Tidgy said, it's easily checked, but even if its not running lean, you'll be getting very little from your mods as the ECU will be trying to maintain established parameters.

I know that prices for remaps vary as cheap as £200 up to £700ish but Im siding with ecutek..

 

With these things, I think that since you will almost certainly be getting it remapped at some point, it makes good sense to get it done absolutely ASAP.
End cost is the same, you'll get more enjoyment out of your car and you don't have to worry (so much) about blowing you car up.

As Fueling is MAF based it will not be running lean, reduced back pressure however will leave you more prone to det (more fresh charge in the cylinder), but as long as your within the capabilities of the Knock system (which you prbably will be) then its probably OK, basically as long as you've not increased the boost, despite what the doom sayers like to say, I reckon your pretty much 100% safe, however, what you won't be doing, is making the most of your mods without a remap!

The problem is the unknown factor. At WOT and high boost the ECU enriches fueling, that enrichment may now no longer be enough, that combined with knock correction etc. It will need to be checked, and if it isn't right it will need to be remapped.

A simple way to temporarily restrict the engine output until the fueling and ignition is checked and to reduce any risks, is to pipe the waste gate actuator directly to the turbo outlet (without the Tee-peice). Then your stuck at 0.5bar max boost (this is presuming it has a factory wastegate actuator).

 

Cheers mate, I have not physically increased the boost but would it increase itself as a result of the mods I've done? Either way I will get it remapped at somepoint to see the benefits. I dont want to jepordise the reliability that I have now. (maybe I should have kept it standard )

 

Yeah it still has the oe wastegate. This modding business could turn out expensive! Once you get the bug its hard to stop
