is it a lot of hassle? or is it easy enough. ive looked onto Number Plates and Private Plates. at a private no. plate which i really like, plus its only £245, and symbolises my car age, the world rally team and my username on here.

looking into it for the sake of a couple hundred quid. what other charges apply, and is there any hidden extras i need to worry about, like annual charges etc?

any advice/opinions welcome.

would be nice to have a recognisable no. plate when im at meets/shows etc.

Always a bit cheaper than the newreg/regtransfers sites.

Straight forward to change over, can do it all by post or go to your local DVLA office in person.

250 included transfer fee and vat on dvla site.

 

As said it's easy enough. Throw away money unless you buy one which you will transfer to your next car mind you

Really easy but could be a pain if you time your visit to the dvla office badly.
I have recently put plates on mine and the wife's car and it only took ten mins at the dvla + 5 mins in Halfords getting the plates made up.

I bought mine afew years ago its been on my 99 Wrx, then my P1, and now on my 03 Sti PPP. Just popped to my local DVLA office to transfer everytime and never had any probs at all.

 

anyone know where the local office is to scunny? lincoln perhaps.

Just had a look at DVLA website and there is one in Lincoln - Firth Road.

 

No annual charges so long as its on a car - its a pita if you have a prang or something and need to put the plate on retention until you put it on another car (you pay for it being on retention, then you pay to put it on another car) but I think it's worth it, so long as its not a stupid expense one

 

IIRC when I changed my plate from the Scoob to the Audi, I couldn't just swap it over. Had to put it on retention for a week, at a cost of £100-odd, compared to the £80 it normally costs to do it.

Something about the fact that the "new" car wasn't mine to put the plate on.....yet.

This was the only PITA, as my "local" DVLA was 25 miles away. Had to go twice - once to put the plate on retention, and then again, to get it changed over. Travel time aside, about 15mins of effort
