Could easily have been a patch of diesel. I had an entertaing moment round the local ring road when I found a freshly gritted corner which felt like it was covered in marbles. Only a hefty twitch of the back end though

One word. Diesel!

There is so much crap on the roads at the moment it can be very slippery driving. The exact same thing happened to my brother although he just managed to catch it. No warning, not going fast then all of a sudden the car wants to swap ends on a roundabout. Change of underwear time.
Probably would have happen to you no matter what car you were driving at the time.

I had the P1 very sideways at the weekend, but that was a combination of too much power on a damp, slippy road and tyres that need replacing. It was loverly.

Beat me to it Dean.

Are all the roads in Ipswich covered in crap or is it just me?

there's a strange little roundabout in Earlsdon, Coventry. Normally it's great fun as you can throw it around a bit but if the weather is even a little damp be careful as it's understeer central!

sounds scary tho, swapping ends !

Best idea to get your confidence back up is to take yourself on a skid pan course.

I doubt it was the scoob, we all have experienced loss of control in some way, whether it was self inflicted or road conditions uch as diesel on the road.......

Where are you located? I could help suggest a few places to go.

I heartily recommend skid pan/car courses......

Cheers

Just wondering what skid pan course you went on... coz I just got one for b'day! (Octagon Motorsports, Silverstone) Think I'll book it for Easter.

Did u find it useful?
(I think I'm a bit nervous!)

I can recommend

SKID CAR North West Limited

Tel: 0161 724 5754

The business card we have got has Tony Lord as chief instructor - 07801 443122 though I don't know whether this is up to date

It is expensive, but the tuition is second to none and it is worth every penny - it was around £70 per person........

Other than that I am doing a search to see if there is anything else for you........

Don't be nervous......the contact above is the one I recommend above an actual skid pan course......

I have been on two skid pan courses through the IAM of which my parents are members and hopefully I will be soon.

The car in question on the skid car course was a saloon fixed onto jockey wheels - it had ABS which could be turned on and off.
The course was intense - but the instructor will make sure you keep up and I learnt a lot, it was brilliant.

First thing I'd recommend is getting youre tyres sorted out, running different types of tyres front and back is asking for trouble I'm afraid.
Some sort of course after that would be adviseable, and should help you build up some confidence in the car, but there is no point going on a course if your tyre setup is clean to pot.

Very, very true Robertio

I am a muppet for not thinking of that first

Lots of people will recommend the Toyo Proxes or Bridgestone S0-3s as two of the most popular tyres - I run on Toyo Proxes and I am very happy with their wet weather handling........

I am sure if you put a post up asking for advice you be able to make a decision, but make sure you go to somewhere you trust for a non-biased, professional opinion on your rubber!

Then as Robertio says, go for a course and enjoy driving your scoob again

Here is a site that might be worth a browse.......bit of maintenance advice and a quick guide on hoe to react to different skids......

http://www.topmarques.co.uk/safety/skidcontrol02.html
http://www.topmarques.co.uk/safety/skidcontrol01.html

This may be good, I don't know about the reputation, but they seem to be in four locations in the UK.......

http://www.chillisauce.co.uk/active/...rol_course.php

For peeps in Scotland try here..

http://www.activitypoint.co.uk/en/e01/01441.htm

You could try writing to these, I couldn't find a contqct number.......Performance Advanced Motoring Ltd, Russell Road, Rock Ferry, Birkenhead, Wirral. CH42 1LU

Still searching, but that is what I have found so far........

Cheers

Michelle

What more is there to say? As above, get the same tyres all round ( mine are different at the mo, I'm enjoying it but in my heart of hearts I know I really should change them!), maybe get a wheel alignment check at the same time...not essential but it never harms. Then if you still feel unsure go on a course.

In the meantime, if you do find yourself in the same situation, don't panic! Keep the gas on and gently steer into the skid. Use gentle adjustments to the steering and throttle to straighten the car up. I know it's easy to say don't panic when you're sat here typing away but it is when you start hacking away on the wheel and dabbling with the pedals that things start to go wrong!

Good luck, enjoy the car!

Bob
