Default safest way to pay money to someone

I am buying something from someone which is very cheap. The deal looks slightly too good to be true but I've spoke with the person and it seems straight up.

I need to give this person £860. They've asked for either cheque, banker's draft or cash into their bank. I'd rather pay cash into their account, but what if they don't send the item?

If I put the money into their account they've promised to send the item tomorrow for a Saturday delivery with royal mail.

What would be the safest way of doing this? If I put money into their account and the item doesn't come is there anyway of getting the cash back?

Seems Google have just opened it's doors to the UK & it's payment system.

Probably end up being a better system than Paypal.

I use Paypal for e-bay but I would like to find a new and faster method, I don't like their fees (ebay or paypal).

How far away are they?

If the deal is that good its probably worth the petrol to meet half way with the amount of money involved.

No chance that I would cough up 860 to someone in any electronic fashion or cheque. If you are in a position that 860 would not mean the end of the world if you get nothing in return, then that's up to you. If it was a kosher business I would be fine with it, but not someone off eBay for example. Cash deal in person is the only way. Too many people getting ripped off and I wouldn't want to be part of the stats.
PS. PayPal wont cover you for that amount - probably only 120 and they take fees from that!

Paypal won't stop you getting screwed either though! Safest bet is to meet the person, send funds to their account or hand over cash to them, then take away your goods. I'd only ever pay £'s to a stranger if they were standing near me. Exception to this is EBay of course

Yes it will? Its always on the buyers side. Plus if you link it to your credit card you're protected again by them as they can refuse the payment to paypal. If the guy doesn't send the item then paypal will give you the money back.

Paypal is on nobody's side except its own. How a site gets so big and has no financial regulation and works as a private company AND still manages to get people to sign up under these conditions is beyond me.

PayPalSucks.com is where you will learn about the PayPal Class Action Lawsuit, Abuse, Fraud & evil behind the PayPal system!

Never would I use that service. For this amount of money, go pay cash on collection. The only way to pay with Ebay people, its full of bloody fraudsters.

Cheers

Matt
