Default Touareg 3.0 TDi...

Hi,

Anyone tried, or even own a Touareg 3.0 TDi?

Heard the "new" engine is good, and makes a difference compared to the 'battery' run TDi R5.

Heard it can be chipped by the manufacturer too, anyone confirm that?

Just like to clear these facts up, have heard large amounts of ppl going on about it!

I had an unbadged Toerag up my chuff on the German autobahn a couple of weeks ago on our way back from Austria. He was bullying me to get out of the way with some extreme tailgating, even though we were doing 100km/h through roadworks where 80km/h was allowed and there was no space on the inside lane to pull in and let him past. Not even the old headlight washer trick deterred him.
When the road opened up I dropped down a gear and was surprised to see him disappear in the mirror - despite my Forester being laden with suitcases and a skibox What a prize *****.

So in short, obviously a ******'s car.
Enjoy.

Yes, you could say that 95% of the driving muppets have no respect for a Subaru!

Foresters tend to be like Stealth Bombers, and when muppets realise that, they weep because they paid 40k for a road-going barge that does 5 mpg and is wasted by a subtle looking 'MPV'!!!

The V10 prolly lags behind too!! Myth Busted!

Not driven the Touareg but a lad i know has a 3.0 TDi Q7 S-Line. Not sure if the handling would be the same but i assume the engine is? If it is i was very impressed with the way it pulled, surprisingly quick and very easy to drive. Well out of my price range.

Probably no help whatsoever but i just thought i'd say.

I've driven both trhe 3.0 and the 5.0 TDI. The 3.0 was to my mind the better car for normal road use and not just because the 5.0 was averaging around 15.2mpg on a bypass. It seemed to handle a lot better than the 5.0, which understandably was very nose heavy.

It's a very well put together car which is probably going to be easier to live with than the 3.0 TDI Q7, from memory a slower and not quite as safe car, despite its size.

As mentioned, the Forester in turbo guise will be quicker. The Toerag is just made from better quality materials and feels a lot more solid.

I'm testing a 3.0 V6 TDi this weekend, I currently drive a X5 4.4 Sport so should be able to give you a reasonable comparison.

My favourite large 4x4 at the moment - Lovely interior and seems to escape the "arrogant git" look of the RR, X5, etc.

Hail-Hail are you not happy with the 4.4 X5?

Thought it might be quite the "stuff"?

Would be nice to hear about the drive!

I love the X5, nice big V8 noise, shifts along reasonably well and all the comforts and toys you could need. It's got most of the extras available. I especially like the motorised widescreen sat nav / tv that moves to reveal a tape deck!!!! Why I will never know
Anyway it's getting on bit now , it's a 2001 51 plate and I get the feeling that now is the time that things will start to go wrong, although it hasn't put a foot wrong to date. Still only done 42k miles.
Should get about 16/17k for it against the 30k Toureg < year old and only 2000 miles. So not too much to layout and leaves few bob in the bank for a 355 in the summer

Well, done the test drive and all in a reasonable motor. < 1 year old and 4800 miles - ex demonstrator.
Interior
Interior was ok and felt pretty solid, had wood finish and full leather, electric heated seats (non memory), single CD only which annoyed me. Nice driving position and all in a pretty comfortable place to be. Didn't feel nearly as nice as the X5 though, but with 20k less on list price I wouldn't expect it to.
Exterior
Metallic grey, but looked silly with 16" (maybe17) alloys. the small wheels made it look borderline ridiculous.
The Drive
Drove pretty well and didn't feel too wallowy. Having an X5 with Sports susp I was worried that this would be all over the place but it wasn't.
Foot down and it didn't really move, sport mode made no noticable difference.
The Deal
The misses liked it so we decided to see price we could negitiate.
Basically came down to 16k trade in for the X5 and 14k cash. I may have went for it at 12k cash but they wouldn't budge, so we walked.
May go back if I sell the X5 privatley but I doubt it. Cash only deal was 29k and it feels like too much.

Off to test drive the Chrysler 300c Touring this weekend, intersted in the 3.0 V6 D, but driving the Petrol 3.5 V6 as it's all they have in at the moment. These list @ 27k new but I think I will look into the Personal Lease route as I can only the the 300c being a depreciation nightmnare and a cow too sell on.

Will keep you posted
