Im new here so, first of all wanna say hi

Having sold my Golf V6 4 Motion im looking at taking a leap of faith and getting a Scooby. Ive seen a WRX 300 with 5000k on the clock. Up for £17k

Just wanted to know what people think of this and any advice is welcome

 

I'd grab it with that mileage if you mean its a UK 300 and i would have thought you would get it if you waft 1600 tens in front of him..

 

I made the change from V6 4M Golf about 14 months ago. The Golf was ok but i always wanted a scoob so went for it. I was initially bricking it because the VW was a good well built car, but after a few weeks of scoob ownership i realised i had nearly made the right decission. I say nearly because i went for a WRX when i should have bought an STI.
Two months ago i put it right and traded in the WRX for an STi.
Now the Golf is history, no looking back

Do it my friend you wont regret it , i made the jump about 6 months ago and havent looked back , ( my03 wrx ) i went from a diesel golf to this and its done nothing but impress me ,

 

that was my mistake buying a wrx and not a sti .live and learn ,mayb an sti next.

 

Funnily enough i've felt the same for a few weeks now , my firend up the road from me has an sti and i had a bit of a play the other day , needless to say there were bigger smiles than ever and now a hunger to find me an sti ( soon ) , Just need to sort the funds out and it'll be all good

 

Is it a UK 300 or a WRX 300? The UK 300 is an older car now... bugeye. Can't be worth more than 9k.

 

I'm looking to buy an Impreza WRX 52, whats the difference with an sti???

I don't want to spend £10,000 and regret it.

 

Trust me you wont , after having a drive in my mates the other day i must say i was very impressed , the steering felt sharper , and acceleration was better , i also liked the harder ride with a different suspension you get on the sti , along with the 6 speed box and many other extras , the interior's preety sweet aswell (if your interested in that sort of thing )

The one I was looking at was a WRX 300
Im looking for something that looks the part as well as being quick and reliable
As such for the price (17K) thought it was a good starting point

However.....if an STI is that much better for a bit more money would it be worth going for one of them ?

Test drive both before you make your mind up, the cars are quite different. I was originally buying a WRX300 but got stuffed around by the dealer so went elsewhere...Bought a MY05 STi PPP in the end. Make sure the WRX 300 has the PPP pack installed, should be on as standard but cars have been known to be sold without it.

 

Ive got the test drive Saturday in the WRX 300.
The dealer has said it has the PPP installed.
Do I take their word or will there be anything to back this up

You seem to have a similar budget to me and I bought a 54 plate sti with ppp for exactly 17k only 2 months ago and i have not looked back
and boy its quick
there is plenty of good scoobies out there, good luck

 

Make sure it has the Prodrive exhaust fitted, Prodrive stamped on it and a single tail pipe. Will have a certificate of installation too...

 

Bought my WRX 300 6 months ago and well pleased with it. Switched from a Vectra GSI 2.5 V6 (don't laugh) and the difference is amazing (like going from a Model T ford to a Race car).

I was originally looking at an STI with PPP but the insurance was a nightmare.
The WRX 300 comes with the PPP installed and is faster than a standard STI (0-60 in 4.8 for WRX 300 compared with 5.5 I think for the STI). It's also much cheeper to buy and insure.
The only downside is it looks very similar to a standard WRX but I'm sure that can be sorted with a high level rear spoiler + a few other bits (interior is already very similar to STI)

The WRX 300 should have the PPP fitted as standard. As detailed earlier it will come with a certificate, large single pipe back box and blue Pro Drive hoses under the intercooler.

 

I have not doubt the WRX 300 is a fantastic car, but if I could I would see if you can stretch to an STI as it is not just the engine that has been altered, the suspension, brakes and most major components are upraded.Plus if you wanted to PPP it in the future you will have 300BHP

 

Test drive both and make up your mind. The suspension is quite harsh in some STI models but a lot better in others (I'm thinking of 7 vs 8 here - the difference was marked to me), the front diff is incredible once you trust it, the brakes are a step up IMHO, the box is better...

The choice was made for me as there isn't an STI wagon (well, apart from classics and the STI7 JDM wagon). My wife wasn't keen on the ride of the STI7, but could have lived with the 8...

Definitely try as many models as you can before you buy: your expectations and needs of the car will be unique, and it's still a buyer's market for Scoobs.
