Default DO YOU MISS YOUR TD04 ???

I changed from a TD04 to a TD05 last year and I must say I do miss it. Just loved the way it used to spool so early and pull from low down, albeit it ran out of puff at the top end.

Even when the TD05 comes on boost it doesn't give you the same feel. I expected it to pin you to the seat but it doesn't.

Maybe an Andy F modified TD04 is the answer.

Anybody else feel the same.

??? did you have it remapped after the turbo was fitted

the kick in the back from my vf35 and now rcm gt35\p18 are chalk and cheese to the old td04 ( running 280 bhp)

changing the turbo wont give more power,

it has to be set up, to run more boost.

a tdo5 will run 1.4-1.5 bar of boost (needs uprated intercooler, fuel pump 440cc ish injectors + other bits n bobs)

then all u have to do is keep the revs 1000rpm higher and wave goodbye to the tdo4

simple eh?

My old TD04 was a lovely lazy drive. Now with my Power FC mapped VF35 it's like being a bloody human cannonball every time I put my foot down.

Sounds like fun! What MY car is it and what other supporting mods do you have mate?

To the poster, agree with the above. It sounds to me like you've not had the car remapped for the bigger turbo, which is essential if you want the gains.

How much does it cost to have a bigger turbo fitted? I've got a TD04 and was after fitting a TD05.

In response to NS04.

Car has been fully remapped for the TD05. MY97 STI running maps from 1.0 to 1.4 bar on the PFC.
Mods are:
Full decat
HKS induction
Uprated fuel pump

All other standard. Car made 310bhp and 280lbft @1.4 bar running Shell + OB. I thought should be more so need to find out where the limting factor is. Was getting some det so took a lot of advance out of the map.

Think I need larger Intercooler + Fuel Pressure Reg.

That's very strange: A TD05 mapped properly should fee significantly stronger than a TD04. Supporting mods look perfectly sensible - it might be a good idea to upgrade the intercooler, but I doubt the fuel pressure reg would need attention at that power level. What di your mapper say?

One thing though, when you say you miss the Td04, are you referring to a previous car, as AFAIK, an STi of that year would have a VF series turbo as std.

Thats true, and the Vf turbos, especially the vf24 on my old sti 4, had such an excellent surge right from 2700rpm.

Was it an Sti engine or UK? I can't see why someone would put a TD04 in an STi - it's not really suited.

Miss the TDO4, LOL Heeeehee... oh wait. You are serious?

If you want a max of 350HP and boost response like your old TD04, I suggest you buy a GT28RS "disco potato". No turbo in the world can be that little turbo for spool, efficiency and transient boost response. Only one catch, its NOT a direct bolt on. Closest turbo that is I direct bolt on, is an APS S/R30 since its based on the GT28. Get ready to have your feelings hurt when you get a price quote though. And if you do like it, act fast APS is killing it off because it seems everyone wants big turbos.

Also, if you think a TD05 is laggy, there must be a problem with your set up somewhere. A TD05H Super 16 can hit a bar by 3,000 rpm and thats the big TD05!
