Default Been caught @ 89 in 70?

Hi people,

I got caught yesterday on the A1(M) in Yorkshire. 730am, I pulled into the outside lane, to overtake two wagons playing wacky races in lanes 1 & 2. As I joined the other cars in lane 3, past the wagons, then saw the range rover from the outside lane, (the wagons were blocking my view of the range on the hard shoulder/mole hill). I backed straight off, but he followed, pulled me, and informed me he clocked me @ 89mph. Best of it was, I was attending court at Newcastle to give evidence for the British Transport Police, so if it were'nt for the police, I wouldnt have been on that road!! Now, the copper issued a Fixed penalty , (he informed me 3 points and £60), I didnt surrender my licence, so need to take it to the local nick. I admit to myself I was in the wrong, fair cop, no excuse. What really narks me is my licence is totally clean, and I could do without the 3 points. I've heard you can request a speeding lecture/class, and just get away with a fine. Anyone got any experiance of this, or know how? or should I just thank my lucky stars thats all I got, and pay the fine, take the points on the nose?

Proby.

PS - He used a LASER, and showed me the reading of 89, 478'

I know that some counties are offering driver days instead of the points. You still have to pay the fine though.

I know it sucks but I think you'll have to take it on the chin this time. If it's only your first offence and they will be the only points on your license then your insurance shouldn't really go up too much.

As Ben says, it's only certain counties that offer the speed awareness course so you may not get the option. As I understand it you can't request the course, it is offered to you. Also, it is generally only offered to people doing just over the limit+10%+2mph, eg 37 in a 30. 89 in a 70 might be a bit too high even if Yorkshire offer the courses.

Mate ,you werent speeding, these scameras they use are highly inaccurate, the signal has obviously bounced off the trucks .I got done last year for 81 in a 70 mph and thanks to www.pepipoo.com i saved three points and £60. Take it all the way and chances are it'll get drooped.

Get over to that site before doing anything and get some good advice

Thumbs down

[QUOTEtry liverpool and victoria.Mac[/QUOTE]

Don't bother. They reel you in with a cheap initial quote then the following year the premium goes up 50% and its a right job cancelling if you have paid monthly.
