Question 65,000 miles is looming and ....

still the brakes will not squeal to say they need replacing!!!

Now, I always have got many, many miles out of brake pads as I don't drive like an idiot ................ but, surely this is very unusual on an Impreza?

Don't get me wrong .... I'm in no hurry to spend my money!! But I am interested to hear if anyone else has got this kind of mileage out of the original (or any) brake pads??

Pete

Great news for your brake pads, Pete, but with all that engine braking, all the other parts of your car will be prematurely worn .

I had a problem with my brakes today - From lack of use

A few 60-0 stops got them back to their usual "average for a scoob" performance

I really should start driving like everyone else, and not bother reading the road ahead and ride the brakes at every opertunity

Come on, don't be shy ............. there MUST be someone out there with pads and discs at more than 65,000miles!!

I'm not THAT good a driver (better than most though!), surely I don't stand alone as the guiding light on ScoobyNet with regards driving properly??

65000 miles is easy when you don't let the speedo above 30mph

I would love to find out that SNetters had been going round Pete's under cover of darkness armed with some spanners and new pads every 20k.

Arn,t these posts becoming irrelevant now Pete.

For someone who proclaims to be the best of the best, and an expert in his field, you really do present some howlers,

If you had presented that info to me as the results of your 65,00 mile review, i would send you off to do a little bit more work

if you want to make bold brash half cocked statements fine, feel free,

if you want a level headed discussion, then provide the rest of the pertinant facts,

ie.

average mileage, average speed, types of road, tyre pressures, occupancy of the car.

Does make me wonder if your the best of the best, why there are so many vacancys?? or are you showing your true colours??

I like the way comments like this get ignored by PSL. Personally I'd far rather wear out a few sets of disks and pads, much cheaper to replace than engines / gearboxes. But then if we all drove our cars around keeping the revs below 4k and never exceeding the speed limit I'm sure we could all make a set of pads last that long

Change the record please

Average Mileage?? What the hell does that mean?

Average Speed? About 25MPH over the average week

Types of road? Rural, no motorway

Tyre Pressures? 42 all round (I know this is high but gives the best life out of the tyres)

Occupancy? average over the week of 1.5 ... always a body in the drivers seat.

There we go ......

Oh, dear, yes my engine and gearbox will be knackered because I drive with sympathy and properly

What utter crap!!

Drive properly and you, too, will get 65,000miles+ out of your pads!!

Save yourself some money AND treat your car with respect - win/win!!

42PSI suits me and my driving .... it also wears the tyres evenly .... I might reduce the pressure to put the tyre wear more on the edges if I feel that will balance out the loadings

Many tyre manufacturers often have 42PSI listed on the sidewall as "DO NOT INFLATE BEYOND 42PSI".

This tyre pressure must wear the centres of the tyres more than the outside edges surely?

Good luck to you if it does not...

would have thought that was very easy pete,

which puts all your other information back to irrelevant status.

D- must try harder

i reckon i must be the odd one out here then.. i bought an impreza because its a quick car and i drive it what i would call properly.. if you have an impreza and drive it round like a grandad scared of wearin anything out then maybe you should sell and get somethin like a rover 75..
An impreza is a high performance car.. i don't see the point in such things as putting the tyre pressures up to prolong there life.. mine are set to get the most grip etc..
No offence intended by this but this is my personal view..
I would like to point out that this does not mean i abuse my car... it gets very regular servicing and if anything starts to get worn it is replaced straight away..

Yes, but with - say - 26PSI then the outer edges get ripped off the tyres and they wear too quickly.

42 or thereabouts - maybe 40 - wears the tyres much more evenly and makes them last longer.

I can't believe that I am the only one to realise this???
