Default WRX STI Or Evo VIII

Hi All

Apologies if this has been covered before but I need some advice.

I realise that there may be a biased opinion but.....I have around £15-16K to spend and I am in a dilemma. I have previously owned a couple of scoob's including a P1 so was thinking about rejoining the community with a WRX STI until I started looking at the Mitsi EVO VIII GSR.

Does anyone have any experience of either that could sway my decision?

Many Thanks

Archie.

Archie, horses for courses really.

I haven`t owned, or driven an Evo, but I believe the running costs are higher on the Evo ie: insurance, fuel, and certainly servicing, which is required every 4.5k IIRC.

No doubt you`ll have some fun test-driving both, and that should be the decider for you.

Had the same choice to make myself in the summer, came away with a 2003 STi PPP for 16K, test drove a Evo 7 FQ 300 and was'nt that impressed with the way it felt when pushin on, it was a bit skittish and felt as though it was floating down the road where as the STi felt Plnted and much more reasureing to drive fast.

Heard plenty of horror storys about the bulid and reliability of Evo's, with rear diffs, Clutches, gearboxes warped discs etc etc being common on cars that are not even out of Warranty. 4500 service intervals seem to be required just to keep them on the road!!...........Oh and the interior of Evo's sucks it's like being in a Kia or Daewoo, very low rent!

Go for the Sti you'll love it AND it makes SUCH a better noise than any Evo ever will!!

STI is the only way to go m8, I did and have never regretted it.
2003 models are a good deal for a well sorted car.

Try posting the same question on the Lancer register. You'll get a nice unbiased opinion there

They'll only give you one answer

Not a Subaru !!!!!

I'd go with what felt right for you after a couple of test drives myself

Thanks for the help so far.....Another question if I may....

I am really confused about the number of models out - i see terms like bugeye and blobeye. I like the ones with the squarish type headlights....seem to be on a 53 plate onwards i think..

Can anyone enlighten me?

Cheers

Archie, the blob-eye (squarish headlamps) came out at least on an 03 plate.

I know this because my STi PPP blobeye is on an 03, and was first registered in May, if that helps at all.

Keep asking mate, coz some of the lads on here know these things backwards, and can give you every model variation, and year of launch etc.

They`re sometimes a bit slow to respond, that`s all.

By the way (not trying to be funny here), but do try the search function on the orange bar at the top, it`s very good, and you will find answers to mostly anything Scoob-related (and some stuff that isn`t remotely related too. )
