Your better with an alloy one if your after weight saving as carbon fibre is pretty damn heavy.

Are you serious ? Carbon fibre is very light. The bonnet I had could be picked up with two fingers !!!

The problem, is that there's a lot of suedo (sp?) carbon fibre parts, that are actually a combination of carbon, and glass fibre.

This is because to make a "good quality, light weight" carbon parts, they need to be "autoclaved", a very expensive process, and used in motorsport, etc', whilst the cheap stuff you generally see, is "wet layed" like fibre glass normally is.

Mark.

Exactly; an autoclave costs a fortune so a lot of 'carbon fibre' is simply laid up like GRP rather than proper pre-preg...

i didn't know there was an alloy one

Out of two RAs i've had, and my mate's RA, the only alloy panel was the bonnet.

also, iirc carbon fibre bonnets are slightly heavier than the alloy ones, so maybe not that useful?

My thoughts as well - i assumed they were alloy - felt pretty light, hadn't rusted where there was a scratch etc.. then a magnet stuck to them

Impreza panels are very, very thin especially the front wings, which aren't really that big when you look at them. If you have alloy front wings it would be a first, they certainly never left the factory like that!
