Just spoke to my local dealer who I'm thinking of buying a WRX 300 from, he says he can't move on the sticker price of the car £21495 but will throw in a PPP (usual £1600) considering the 06 model is iminent I was really expecting a little better deal on this TBH, any thoughts?

Secondly, from threads on here I understood the PPP kit was actually standard spec for a 300, my dealer says this is not correct. So for those who have bought one with PPP (not the Subaru free offer though) how much did you pay? £21495 or £21495+the PPP...

Any help really appreciated.

It comes as standard on the WRX300

 

If you pay £21,495 for this be prepared to take a huge loss if you sell it within 12 months. If I were you I'd either get a year old STi or wait for the MY06 and add a PPP.

WRX 300 comes as a standard feature with PPP. Period!
Never pay full price for anything if you can!
I got my wrx 300 and PPP for £18995 brand spanking new.
That is the price you can say to you man, if not I'll PM you were I bought mine and you can get one from there (that is if they have any 300's left)
I saw the £18995 figure at another dealer but got on better with another dealer, hence I gave him an offer, get me a 300 for the same price as XXXXX dealers and the deal is with you, he did and he got the job. BINGO!

Blimey, if someone tried to pull a fast one like that on me, I'd tell 'em where to stuff it and go to a dealer you can actually 'trust' even if they are a bit further away..

Looking at the brochure for the WRX 300.
It states as wll as many things the following:
Special features:
Prodrive Engine Perfromance Upgrade Package. PPP
It's there in black and white.

Does state "upgrade" package though which could mean you need to pay for the upgrade...I think a call to Subaru is in order to clear that up. If it is included they can take £1600 off the sticker price to make it "reasonable"

I agree but it's very convenient as I have a PX which is SORN at the mo & the dealer is 1/2 mile away...Won't be paying for the privilege though

In the wrx 300 brochure it clearly states that you get the PPP as a feature of the limited edition wrx 300. As well as gold wheels, SWRT fog covers, momo gear stick etc etc. It even shows you a graph of the engine placement and re map etc to show you the change in power and at which point etc. It's all there.

I've requested the brochure from the Subaru site, wanted one anyway, produce that & see what the dealer says....

Even on the Virgin Cars site it states that the 300 is 265bhp compared to 225 for a standard WRX so things are looking up lol

Dave, this is extremely good advice.

If you have ANY inkling that you may want an STi at a later stage, do not get a brand new WRX 300, as I know to my cost, even with PPP, you may still regret it later.

Good luck with your purchase, whatever you decide.

 

Agreed, that dealer is either fibbing, or really doesn't know his products!

As for not budging on the price of a soon to be replaced car.....

Make sure you test drive the Sti, as the above poster says, you should make a completely informed decision so you're completely happy with your purchase because what you don't want to do is buy a new car and then sell or px it within a year as you'll loose your shirt!

right well for one ppp is standard on wrx300. also you have got to be jokin paying 21495. with regards to the dealer trying to have you over saying he will chuck in ppp that would put me off that dealer for life. dont even consider going back to him.

there are quite clearly HUGE discounts to be had. shop around. montys of sheffield have one for 19495 with 10 miles on it. you really dont want to be paying more than 20k for a new one or 19k for a pre-reg.

Don't think I'm going to test drive the STi for 3 reasons.
1. Out of budget
2. Wife will be using car more than me
3. I know if I drove one I'd probably want one & we're chopping 2 cars in to get one to save a bit of cash.

Will be phoning Subaru this morning to confirm PPP is standard on the WRX300 then be speaking to the dealer. If true about the PPP the dealer should be able to drop £1500 of the car price making it 20k which sounds a bit more like it. The dealer has only just opened to be fair (few weeks ago) so it may be he's just not upto speed on the product yet.

PPP as standard although you don't HAVE to have it fitted!!!

Picked ours up in June and although paid the sticker price, got £1500 more for traid in than car was worth taking the real price of car to £20k. Swings and roundabouts, my friend.

My MG ZS 1 year old MK 2 shoula have been worth a lot more but doe to getting a new 300 at £18995 they did not budge on any freebies etc as the price was so cheap anyway on the 300.

 

Just picked up on a comment on another thread about an insurer saying WRX300s all being 55 plate.

This is absolutely untrue.

All dealers were given an allocation of 2/3 vehicles at the start of June. Nearly all were sold in June/July, on 05 plates.

Just an answer to your PPP conundrum - I suspect it may be that 99% of dealers either sold, or pre-registered their allocation early doors. As this was done whilst the free PPP offer was on, it was a calculated gamble by Subaru that their dealer network would sell/register the 300 cars whilst the PPP offer was on for all WRXs - and thus they were able to offer the car as though PPP was standard.

There are probably one or two dealers who have had the stock sitting around now for 3/4 months, and because they haven't registered them before the free PPP offer finished, Subaru are quite rightly saying that it isnt free any more.

As a result the dealer realises hes got a car worth £17k new without PPP, or £19k with PPP. He will have to pay for the PPP but even assuming they pay full £16000, the price should still only be £20,500 absolutely maximum.

I've said it before and will say it again, mines for sale but not interested in p/x unfortunately.

 

1. Second hand STi, let someone else sufffer the depreciation hit?
2. She might like it too! ;-)
3. True, but you might not like it; it's not for everyone...if you don't try you'll never know and that'll be worse I suspect!
