Hi i am thinking about changing my 325tds se BMW for a impreza turbo 97 R reg wagon .
Car is engine standard but has de-cat pipe .
what can expect to get in the way of MPG average driving?
i know if pedal to the metal it will be sore low 20s but could i expect 28-30mpg?

No; unfortunately not; if youre enthusiastic youll be lucky to see 18mpg too.

 

I used to get about 25 to 28 ish from my 'classic shape' which was mostly country roads , not so good if your sitting in town though I guess

for a 97 Uk car

 

I managed to get 354 miles out of 52.69l on the motorway last friday, which is 11.59 gallons, which equates to 30.5MPG.

its usually about 280-300 which is down in the 24-26MPG range.

Even at 24MPG the fun to be had is far better than £23 per gallon beer is at my local!

 

I got 26mpg from my first tankful (Esso Supreme 97 RON, only thing I could find quickly) and that was running the car gently since it's got less than 1000 miles under its wheels. It'll only get worse from here...


Last time I had a Classic (97MY), 26-26mpg was normal. You can squeeze out more, especially on long uninterrupted A road runs taking it at 60-70 mph, but try and conserve fuel on the fun roads where you're up and down the gears and it makes the car a bit pointless.

 

I got 390 miles out of a tank yesterday (57.96L) still only 30.6mpg.
Far too close to running out!

 

If you're worried about fuel consumption, don't buy an Impreza. Put your foot down and you'll be seeing MPG in the low teens! Everyday (sensible) driving, low twenties, decent cruise, 30 ish (assuming no hard acceleration). They're not cheap cars to run. You play, you pay.

Just back from a most enjoyable weekend in Aberdeen, 300 mile round trip and managed 370 miles from 53 litres which is 31.5 mpg (80 mph average in MY00 Turbo 2000).....usually lucky to get near 300 from a tank.....oh,and quite a few nice scoobs up there too

 

I got on average 23mpg i a new my98 uk turbo, mainly commutting on a dual carriageway.

 

MY99 Clasic.

£20 seems to be me 100-120 miles most times. Not sure what that works out in MPG.
