Ok, i have a rare BMW E30 Tech 1 sport, 2.5, leather, lsd, close ratio gearbox etc BUT its a first car, i want something quick but rwd I'll probably kill myself lol, i been wondering if best bet for me to get a scoob would be ask certain places who offer part ex/finance and ask them to trade, or if my BMW is not enough value for a scoob to part ex then perhaps me selling the car for 2 - 3k and putting that down and pay rest weekly/monthly or something?

What would be best way to do this guys as I'm hopeless at saving, always buying car bits, camera bits etc lol, don't be alarmed by the first car thing, I'm just an enthusiast (no chav lights or neons etc) that has taken his time getting license (20 years old 21 next month) and impressed by the 4wd handling of these cars, experienced in a friends evo 6 which can't be "too far" off a scooby?

Any help is greatly appreciated, i would probably be looking for a uk turbo for insurance purposes obviously as its the same group as my BMW, here's some pics of the car..







Got other bits which are sat here waiting to go on yet before i sell it, scorpion exhaust, rocker cover and inlet done in black and chrome, wheels will be cleaned up and new badges etc.

mate thats a gorgeous looking motor,always wanted a 325i sport but never got one in the e30 shape liked em loads better than the e36-really depends on how much you wanna spend on a scooby, to be honest if you part ex you`d be stupid i think you`d get a lot more from an actual bmw enthusiast try posting on a few bm forums.short of that there are sports car specialists you could p-ex the bm in at just gotta search round for them traded my 106gti in for me scooby here

well on the autotrader, a lot of traders or dealers sell imprezas, you can do it on finance. I would advise that the best way is to do it by paying cash up front if you can. You can pick up a decent uk spec impreza for as little as 4k, just a matter of finding them.
Uk specs are easier to run than imports, although imports are faster, parts are a little harder to find form say, the dealers AFAIK, also imports must be run on high octane fuel or remapped for uk fuel (*which if not done already is expensive to do). Both will feel a lot faster than your bmw, especially off the mark.

How much difference is it insurance / running costs between a uk turbo and an import then? one person has told me the uk turbo is cheaper to insure, yet another has said import one yourself and it works out cheaper.

 

An import will be more to insure and for parts,and it has to be mapped for uk fuel,sell the bm private then get a bank loan for the rest,will give u more bargaining power if u pay with cash,i would buy a uk model from a main dealer

 

I had a D reg one of those, ended up breaking it for bits the christmas before last as the head gasket had gone and the bodywork just dropped to bits.

A great car, shame it just got too old and I didn't have time to fix it up. Let the bits go way too cheaply, got about £750 for the car.

There is a big performance difference between the two, the BM had a kent 234 fast road cam in it and my scoob is a classic UK wagon. The scoob would have left the BM standing both in acceleration and handling. I miss having the back end step out under power, used to do some great powerslides in the beemer in the wet!

Insurance for me was £560 fully comp for a UK car and just over £1k for a WRX import when I looked into it 9 months ago. (32, full protected NCB, 0 points at present!)

 

Thats a lovely tech 1 mate, nice to see one with the gold strips too, mine has done 92k miles which is not bad for a 16 year old car at all, i think im gonna sell it, get a loan and purchase a uk turbo though, as you said the head went on yours and i know many more cases like that, if it ever happened to mind then i can't see myself going through the effort, so i want a car thats a bit less fragile.

Thanks, I like to keep it clean, apart from usual stone chips from driving it, would be good car for someone. Having trouble selling, had no interest so far, only mods it has is Prodrive Performance Pack and quickshift gearchange, both done by Subaru.
